Seven of top eight scorers from last year are gone. Only Hooper returns from that group.

Anyone have a thought on why so many players transferred out from a winning season? I have no inside information but here are a few thoughts: Quite a few had their degrees including Emma, a junior who was a surprise departure. We were not a young team last season. Gilmore and Burch are two underclassmen that will be missed. Gilmore struggled at the end of the season with a little tough love from the staff. Burch always seemed happy, but who knows these days. I think the lack of a campus life in a neighborhood with few attractions is more of a problem for a female athlete. I know they loved the couple of weeks in a downtown hotel over Christmas break because they had things they could do. They did not look forward to returning to campus. Who would think that being stuck in a hotel in Detroit over the holidays would be a good thing. Hooper is coming back but she is a local kid with family in the Detroit area. Being on a winning team provides them with more opportunities to leave. Most of them had the grades to transfer which also helps. I do not have a problem with those who have their degree and want to try somewhere else. I wish them all well. They were the start of the turnaround that is coming to Women's basketball.
