I am certainly not making any predictions, because the PW-era started with some very good players left over by Byrdsong (Greg Grant, Alan Renner-Thomas, Herman Jenkins, and a real stud, Tony Tolbert). Now, that was back in the day when there was a big difference between DI and DII, and we always won our pre-season games in blowouts. But on the first night of 1993-94, it was PW's first real-season game, against the Tartars, in Cobo Arena. And Michael Aaron had transferred to Wayne for his senior season. You may remember he was an undersized 6-5 Center with hops and he played tough. He started for the Titans and averaged double figures, but was disallusioned after Byrdsong left and moved on for his final year. They beat us that night in a close game in a huge upset and Aaron climbed onto press table and hooted and hollered and went nuts after the game. It was hard to take, and it was a tough start.
But as we all know, we won the League Tourney that year, only to stay home because the MCC had lost its automatic bid for one season due to the fact that Dayton left the league (the #1 reason they are the school I dislike the most in the history of college hoops).
We don't have that kind of talent, but hopefully we have that kind of coaching staff again.

We have a group of players that need to be developed by the coaches. The exhibition start is disappointing. I pray the finish to the season is strong.

From what I saw on the exhibition game we need the coach staff to improve. There was no reason to lose that game against a D2 program. We were up and the momentum was going are way until a foul on a fast break. Then UDM players decided to lose focus on the game and would rather chirp at the other team. The refs did what they need to do to deescalate and call fouls. Are coaching staff did not call a time out and refocus the players instead they let the players chirp at the opponent and complain to the refs. Another point is earlier in the game Alex was complain to the ref about a none call foul (to Alex point of view) the ball was still active and ended up flying by him because he had his back to the basket complaining to the ref. We lost by 2 points. If he was focus that could of easily been the two points we lost by. The coaching staff needs to do better at focusing this group of players to win. Yes we didn't not have a good shooting night but are defense and pushing the ball up should of been enough to win this game from what I could see.

That did not help. I expect that to improve. I do remember the events you described and agree they could have been handled better.

I must have missed something, but why was the head coach not on the bench?

I must have missed something, but why was the head coach not on the bench? Sick with flu like symptons.
