The NCAA tournament isn't through its first weekend, but we can start putting together 2014-15 non-conference schedules for Horizon teams. The number after each team's D-I foes is that school's final RPI in 2014, with an average RPI for known opponents shown at the bottom of each team's schedule.

A couple quick initial thoughts:

Kampe always said he would schedule down once he joined the Horizon, and this schedule shows movement in that direction. The Chicago State, Western Carolina & Georgia State games are for a tournament at the O'Rena. Should be 3 pretty easy home wins, although Georgia State usually puts a decent product on the floor. They're lucky Izzo has the little man-crush on Kampe, too, giving them the game at State, and Iowa State is a good guarantee game. Morehead State is a bracketbusters return and not a bad game - on the road, this game could even be a nice RPI builder. Western (which is not yet definite so far as I know) and Toledo are good games.

CSU and Detroit also have good schedules shaping up. The Titans really have lucked out with that Wichita State game, a Bracketbusters return.

Green Bay has scheduled a game at Miami, Florida. That's a great game, I think. No shame in losing, but if you win it's a road win over the ACC. And it's a winnable game, as Miami, obviously, ain't at the top of that league. Plus a nice trip to Miami in early December.

People on the Milwaukee board are reporting that Wisconsin will play next year at Cellular Arena. Milwaukee is putting together a good schedule. It has winnable road games against major conference teams (DePaul, Auburn, Houston), a marquee home game (assuming the Wisconsin rumor is true), a couple of easy home games to pad the win totals.

UIC becomes first HL team to release its 2014-15 non-conference schedule today, which is reflected at the top of this thread.

Nothing on there to pack 'em in at the Pavillion, but given the present sorry state of UIC ball, I think it's a pretty good schedule. Loyola may be the "marquee" home game, such as it is, and that's winnable, as are home games against Grand Canyon, Tennessee-Martin and Western Illinois. Central Florida is tougher, but they can win that, too. The Flames will probably get beat up on the road, but DePaul and Northwestern are local teams from big conferences that are beatable; same with the MVC's Bradley. SMU and Dayton look like the sure-fire road losses. They also play Kent, Yale, and SIU at a tournament at Kent State, and could get a win or two there. And they've got a couple non-DI games at home - they'll need those confidence builders.

I would like to see the Horizon schools upgrade their schedules, but where UIC is, a soft non-con slate makes sense. Not counting the non-DI opponents, they could get through this non-con schedule at .500, and for a team coming off a 6 win season, that would be a good thing, and also help other Horizon teams with RPI.

With the changes made to the team in the offseason, I think we can win a fair portion of the 13 D1 non-con games. Remember, we lost quite a few games last seasn by 7 or less and in the last few minutes. I think the team will be better basketball IQ-wise, deeper and bigger up front. To be honest, I'd be quite surprised if the team didn't go at least 9-4, 8-5 minimun.

You've got 6 true road games, and you'll be the underdog in all 6. Plus two neutral site games. Realistically, 8-7 (including the two non-DI opponents) would be a nice non-conference season, and more wins than you had all of last year. I'll say I wouldn't be surprised if UIC went 8-5 against its Di non-con opponents, but 5-8 or 6-7 is probably more likely. But we shall see. Fans should be optimistic early!

There had been early talk of that but I had the impression it had fallen through. It is surprising how much political presssure is put on Ohio State to play in-state state schools.

And we have a winner in the Belmont Stakes - Wright State's AD tweeted this afternoon that WSU will play a home & home with Belmont this year. The Raiders have also lined up George Mason at home and will continue their local rivalry with Miami of Ohio. Big schedule upgrade from last year.

Wright State, after playing a pathetic non-con the last couple years, has an attractive schedule shaping up, with home games against Belmont, George Mason, and local rival Miami (OH), some winnable road/neutral games at a tournament at USC-Upstate (including Florida Int'l), and a road game now at The Ohio State University.

I don't think it'll be a problem at all for Milwaukee to beat Green Bay's attendance. They'll more than likely sell out Panther Arena!
