If we simply need to fill out a roster, there will be options out there. The question is whether the new coach would want to spend a 4-year scholarship on a player that he thinks is borderline. That's why I think whomever comes in here may be hitting the JUCO button early.
If we want to offer some big bodies who can rebound and play defense, there will be players like Tariq Woody available. Great chance for some people to pick up D1 scholarships who normally may not.
If the new coach can come in late and land Norman, Woody, and Washington / Verbeek or something similar from JUCO... that would be a win.

I imagine that the new coach and his staff will have a few players they will reach out to right away - either transfers or other players that they already have connections with (either personally or thru their other coaching connections) who will want to play for them. (Think BA/Kam Chatman without the twisted daddy as an assistant coach scenario). That should fill at least a few openings very quickly.

Commish - thanks for following up on Khalil and posting the commitment. Random tweet from Steve Bell If Detroit decides to hire a coach, he should offer Flint Powers' Cam Carpenter. Carpenter is a 2018 pg, ranked 113 by prephoops Michigan, but had a standout AAU performance last weekend and opened up some eyes I'm always reluctant to put too much stock in a one off performance like a great showing at an AAU event. I can remember playing a high school summer league tournament where I played out of my mind and looked like a shorter version of Eric Turner of Flint Central/U of M. Obviously, I was nowhere near that good normally. Having said that, given the likely scramble that we'll have to fill the roster once the new coach is hired, Carpenter might be worth a look.

On page one of this thread I list such offers as I know of. I have Norman down as getting offers at some point from Loyola, Duquesne, UTEP (which he accepted, then decommitted when they changed coaches), and Southern Mississippi, along with various MAC and Horizon schools. A guy a bit short of the high majors but a good Horizon recruit. There is still talent out there, but we have to get moving. Besides Norman, here are just a few local kids: Anthony Roberts, 6-3 SG from Detroit. He committed to Bryant, decommitted when the coach retired. Is picking up regular offers now, including Kent State, Northern Illinois, and St. Bonaventure. Blake Verbeek. Someone--maybe it was Baller--called him a slightly upgraded Malik Eichler, and that sounds right. Still, you can always do worse than a flyer on a 6-10 guy. Offered this week by Holy Cross. Christian Agnew - a 2017 grad from Westland, guard, took a prep year, offered in the last couple weeks by Ohio U, Louisiana, and Utah State. Bryce Washington -- Southfield Christian guard is still out there. Several mid-major offers. At 1 point had an offer from Pitt, don't know if that's still valid. Was offered by Bacari. Tray Jackson - A small forward from Ypsi, had a disappointing senior year that didn't raise his stock much. Still was Honorable Mention all-state and has (or at least had) a slew of mid-major offers. Also offered by BA. Jack Ammerman - a SG from Ann Arbor. He looks like a D-II player, but he wouldn't be bad to fill out the roster (we may not have a single scholarship guard coming back next year) and he strikes me as a guy who just could turn into a Travis Bader type. And of course, Allen and McFolley are not yet committed elsewhere. I'd like for the new coach to have a chance to talk to them before they commit to transferring. And there are the jucos. Walt Kelser, who was JUCO All-American at Schoolcraft, just committed to Ferris State. Not suggesting he would have been a star or even starter, but I'll bet he could have helped us out. I don't follow the jucos enough to know what's out there, but whatever is, I'm sure it's starting to disappear fast. Verbeek commits to Holy Cross.

More from Steve Bell - just to give everyone an idea of who's left in Michigan's class of 2018:
And when someone suggests Lamar Norman, who he omitted:
And more from Jeff McKinney in response:

Lamar Norman tweets he's been offered by UIC. Good news is that he is still available, and although he was receiving offers/interest at a higher level, it appears that Horizon League level teams are still in it with him. I wonder if he is waiting for us / would consider us once we get a new coach hired. Bryce Washington offered by UIC last night

more from Jeff McKinney in response: Crump signed an LOI with Ashville. Nothing on his twitter feed or that I can find anywhere with a quick google search suggests he has asked to be released. Recall that Ashville's coach took the job at Middle Tennessee State, so that is a case where players can usually get a release. But I don't think Crump had any other D-I offers, and he'd probably be smart to stay put.

Steve Schwanda has posted what is the first ranking of Michigan's class of '18 that I think I've seen (http://www.alleyesonuhoops.com/2018-top-ten.html), as of September 4. Remember, these are kids who have yet to play a high school game. 1) Brandon Johns East Lansing 6'7 2) David DeJulius Detroit Edison 5'11 3) Davion Williams Belleville 6'1 4) Shayne Scruggs Lansing 6'0 5) Pierre Mitchell Detroit Loyola 5'10 6) Jake Lee Petosky 6'4 7) Grant Nabors Wyoming Park 6'2 8) Lamar Norman Godwin Heights 6'0 9) Elliot Bergsma East Grand Rapids 6'5 10) D'Avery Moore East Kentwood 6'4 Looking at this, I feel like Ace Ventura the first time he saw the Miami Dolphins team picture with Ray Finkel in it... Early projections showed a Shayne Scruggs high on the list, from Lansing. I've never heard of Scruggs so a quick Google search turned up that he's playing at a prep school in Toronto and ended up 6'7". I've never seen him play but I'm ready to extend an offer at this point. 😉

Roberts visited Bona this weekend It's a beautiful campus. It's A10. My guess is he commits there before we get a new coach in place.

Back to Basketball (for when we get a coach and decide to fill the roster): Another Michigan 2018 is picking up steam, Novi's 6'9 Tariq Woody. He has received interest from D1's Univ. of Delaware, James Madison, Indiana State and Murray State; D2's Florida Tech and Lewis University, plus holds offers from 7 JUCO's, including Henry Ford, Paris & Delta

Trendon Hankerson, a big guard from Novi (and brother of Green Bay's Kameron) picked up an offer recently from Northern Illinois. Trey Jackson, whom we offered under the old regime and who has several offers, is picking up more and better ones--this week from DePaul and Rhode Island. Talent is out there but the shelves don't stay stocked forever.

Based on his recent offers and the fact that his Detroit offer came from Ray Mac, he's probably not a future Titan. verbalcommits.com/players/tray-jackson
