Tis the season for high school basketball events. TheTip Off takes place tomorrow, with six games on the schedule. The Classic takes place at Detroit Edison Public School Academy and features six Detroit high schools and schools from Southfield, Ypsilanti, Romulus, River Rouge and Saginaw. It's a heck of an event, and one I would attend if I wasn't going to be at Calihan for Titans vs Shockers. Lots of talent will be on display, including some Titan targets.
That's actually an unfortunate scheduling quirk, with the Classic taking place the same day as the Titans game. I am sure there are fans, coaches, and players, who will be at the Classic but would have enjoyed being at Calihan.
Also tomorrow, there is another event at Milan High School, with the premiere game being Milan High School versus Lincoln High School. There are at least four D1 talents in that game, with Nick Perkins and Latin Davis from Miland and Devin Haygood and Ty Groce from Lincoln. I am planning on being at Milan in time for that game.

Just watched Pickering Central take apart a pretty good Hazel Park team. Final was something like 87- 60. JeremiahFrancis and Adrian Nelson were very impressive.
Pickering Central has a 6-11 senior center who might be worth taking as a project. Sterling Manley is his name.

Maybe he just had a bad night. Looked kind of soft and a bit clumsy. Got a couple of his shots blocked by smaller players. Well, congratulations to him. I am sure Roy Williams knows more than I do about what kind of player he will be. Thanks for setting me straight, Commish.

I'm at Calihan Hall for the Operation Friendship games. De La Salle vs King and U of D High vs Cass Tech. Should be a fun night of basketball in a packed house.

Interesting that as college seems to be going forward with less restrictions on transfers, the MHSAA is tightening up a bit. Obviously not any serious causation I don't think but an interesting trend.

(Made an edit to the thread title to avoid redundancy and have a place for items like this.)
On this date in 1972, Larry Fogle of Cooley High School went off for 73 points in a game against Cody. Fogle went on to become a prolific scorer at Canisius University. In 1973-74, he averaged 34 points per game, while shooting 54% from the floor. The Canisius schedule that year included Boston College, Villanova, Detroit, Syracuse, St. Bonaventure, Maryland, LaSalle, South Carolina, Florida State, and more, ending with a record of 14-12. (Our Titans beat them.) Fogle was a baller. He led the nation in scoring that year and averaged 28 the following season. He was drafted in the second round, but only played 2 games in the NBA.

One addition to Larry Fogle bio. Larry attended Southwest Louisiana for his soph year before transfer to Canisius. He averaged 14.8 ppl for the Rajun Cajuns.
