Ask and it shall get given unto you. Caleb Love is returning to North Carolina for another season. Run it back! They’re gonna miss Manek for sure so it’ll be interested what Coach Hubert does to fill that void plus hopefully get a little bit of depth and rotation. As they sat….it’s a good day to be a Tar Heel! Looks like Coach Davis has his replacement for Manek. Northwestern transfer Pete Nance committed to the Heels. The 6-10 Nance averaged 15 and 6 for Northwestern last season, and hit 45% from three. The productive Tar Heel off season continues. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4397233/pete-nance

I remember reading a ranking of coaches in the sweet 16 and Hubert was ranked #16. And here we stand coming up just short in natl title game, and a team set to be ranked top 3 when the next year starts (and some early momentum on recruiting trail to boot!)

Here's a link to an interesting article analyzing the compensation of football and basketball coaches in the North Carolina university system. It discusses how coaches are compensated differently at different schools and some of the pay structures that affect total compensation. Just because you see a low base salary doesn't mean that the coach is only receiving that as his total annual compensation.

No road games…two neutral sites. When you have 20 billion dollars you can pay teams to come to you.

It's interesting on the recruiting trail...UNC continues to try at some of the one-doners but seems to have much better success on signing the rising 4* guys with these 2 latest signings just like it. This has continued from the Roy Williams era and the proof is really in the pudding with how the success has rolled on over the years - often with a team of players led by upper classmen that have developed over the years, rather than dominated by one-doners a la Kentucky/Duke. I'm not saying one method is better than the other, but it does seem there's an interesting contrast here in managing a program especially in the ever changing modern age.
Returning Carolina starters from the team that made it to the title game last year, and their class ranking at HS graduation: Caleb Love (5*, #14), Bacot (5*, #27), RJ Davis (4*, #50), Leaky Black (4*, #71).

UNC seems to be trying to do it the old fashioned way, building a team for the relative long term rather than assembling a collection of talented players for a year. Seems like it is a philosophy that has passed down from Dean Smith to Roy Williams to Hubert Davis. It's a formula built on team chemistry and player development. That philosophy is one of my favorite things about the Tar Heel culture. Like Michigan State, they put a great emphasis on culture and program.

Fan asked a good question in the scoreboard thread: "What's with Louisville?" It's hard to say. They were expected to have a down year, but no one expected them to be this bad. I think losing those first three games to mid majors by one point each snowballed on them, and they don't have strong, experienced leadership to dig the team out of it. I know Kenny Payne is a first year coach, but assistant coach Danny Manning has a lot of coaching experience, and he's not making a difference either. Looks like a lost year for Louisville, which is still in the aftermath of the multiple Pitino scandals.
Florida State is another program that is a mystery. They were actually supposed to be good this season. They have had injury and availability issues, but even with that, their record is surprising. I checked their message board, and of course there are a good number of "Fans" calling for Coach Hamilton to be fired. His previous seven years with the 'Noles: NIT second round, NCAA tourney round of 32, Elite Eight, Sweet Sixteen, 26-5/Regular season ACC champ (No postseason due to Covid), Sweet Sixteen, and last year 17-14/no post season. I would advise the FSU administration to not make the same mistake that other administrations have made with listening to loud, ignorant fan bases.

Louisville, which has had winning seasons in 73 of the past 77 seasons, got their first win of the season last night by beating Western Kentucky. The Cardinals are now 1-9. El Ellis, one of the top JUCOs in the country in the class of 2021, had 30 points and 10 assists for UL.
Next up for Louisville is FAMU.
