Athlon picks Bowling Green over Buffalo in the MAC East, Toledo in the MAC West. They've got Western, Central, and Eastern finishing 4th, 5th, and 6th, respectively, in the West.

Also, they play potential common foe Cal-Irvine.

Pre Jon Rothstein on the Twitterverse.
"Former Illinois head coach John Groce has Akron at 14-3 overall. The Zips' three losses? West Virginia, Louisville, and Liberty. A team to monitor in the MAC."

Final MAC Standings:
EAST DIVISION Akron Bowling Green Buffalo Kent State Ohio Miami (OH)
WEST DIVISION Ball State Northern Illinois Toledo Central Michigan Eastern Michigan Western Michigan
Toledo struggled at times this year, surprisingly. WMU's season cost their coach his job. We're waiting to see what happens with Murphy at EMU.

Quick MAC snapshot:
It's tight in the MAC. Toledo is in first place with a 7-1 record, and they are 12-4 overall. The next three teams only have two losses each, so it's anyone's race. Our Michigan MAC teams are all struggling, holding the 9, 10, and 11 spots in the 12 team league. Northern Illinois is bringing up the rear.

Toledo won the regular season championship, but lost in the conference tournament. They dropped the NIT opener to Richmond. Ohio finished fifth in the conference, but got hot at the right time, beating Kent State, Toledo, and Buffalo in the conference tournament to reach the Big Dance. They then upset Virginia in the first round before losing to Creighton. Great season for the Bobcats. CMU and EMU both made coaching changes, and both chose veteran coaches with success as head coaches in previous programs. Looks like two solid hires, and both have moved fast in rebuilding their rosters. The Titans are tentatively scheduled to play Toledo in 2020-21, as we continue my informal "Motor City vs Glass City" rivalry. I expect we'll have another MAC opponent or two on the schedule.

MAC prediction per Blue Ribbon.
1. Buffalo 2. Ohio 3. Akron 4. Toledo 5. Kent State 6. Miami (Ohio) 7. Bowling Green 8. Ball State 9. Western Michigan 10. Central Michigan 11. Eastern Michigan 12. Northern Illinois
It's expected to be a long year for our in state MAC brethren. But I think all of them feel good about the coaches they have in place and the future. I'd love to see all three of them at the top of the conference.

Toledo 17-3, 26-8 Kent State Ohio Akron Buffalo Ball State Miami-OH CMU Bowling Green Northern Illinois Eastern Michigan Western Michigan As you can see Ohio owned the MAC during the regular season, with all of the top four teams hailing from the Buckeye State. The Michigan schools were on the opposite end of the spectrum. Despite their regular season excellence, the Rockets once again fell short of their quest to end their NCAA tournament drought, falling to Akron in the MAC tourney. I think they were still stinging from the Akron loss when they fell to Dayton in the first round of the NIT by 17. Akron gave UCLA a tough battle before falling 57-53 in the Big Dance.
