A miscellaneous thread for pre-season talk on the Horizon that doesn't elsewhere.
The top 3 vote getters for last year's all conference team were all underclassmen -- Kay Felder, Alec Peters, and Paris Bass. It could be that none of the three will come back. Also disappearing to transfer blues: second team all-conference guard Jordan Johnson of Milwaukee and All-Freshman member Jordan Andrews of Youngstown. Also transferring out: Milwaukee's Austin Arians and Akeem Springs, both of whom would have been legit contenders for second team pre-season post-season honors (if that makes any sense). That's a pretty major talent outflow, though if Peters comes back it won't be quite so bad.
The league also lost Jayquan McCloud of Milwaukee, who transferred out during the year but would have been a strong contender for all-freshman honors. UIC starter Najeal Young transferred out, as did David Skara, a rotation player and sometime starter at Valpo. A couple other freshmen with potential who transferred out were Julian Torres of UIC and Bryce Nickel of YSU.
Bottom line is that a Horizon without Felder, Peters, and Bass looks a lot weaker than a Horizon that has them on the floor.

Word is David Skara is going to Clemson.
So we've got: Skara to Clemson Arians to Wake Forest Springs to Minnesota
When you figure none of these guys was more than the third best player on his team or remotely close to all-conference, it speaks well of the quality in the Horizon. But it is a bitch to lose them all.

I hadn't really looked at it that way, but you're right; the conference has lost a lot of talent. I'm afraid it's probably going to be something that we see regularly. Not only are the high majors raiding the mid majors for grad transfers, but they seem to be increasing the number of "up transfers" they will solicit, even if the player has to sit out a year. Trouble. I just heard Peters is withdrawing from the draft, but he's still a potential transfer as a graduate. He could join his former coach down at Vanderbilt.

Conversely, I can't think of much talent transferring in from 4 year schools this year.

Conversely, I can't think of much talent transferring in from 4 year schools this year. Me, either. Stevie Clark at Oakland, formerly of OK State, kind of fits that mode, although he's coming from a JUCO now and is certainly a question mark in terms of ability and behavior. It certainly doesn't seem like we're getting the infusion of talent via the transfer route that we've gotten in years past.
