The Titans meet long time foe Eastern Michigan University Wednesday, November 30 at Calihan Hall. This is personally one of my favorite non-conference opponents for the Titans, due mostly to the fact that my brother and sisters all attended EMU. Also, I have had a soft spot for EMU since I was in seventh grade when my middle school basketball coach took the team to see EMU play WMU at Bowen Field House. This is also a natural rival that for some reason doesn't draw as well as it should. EMU is picked as one of the preseason favorites in the MAC West division, but they have had an up and down start to the season. They played Pitt to a three point loss at Pitt, then got blown out after traveling to Texas to play SMU less than two days later. (They had nothing left for that game.) They have size up front and talented guards, and pose a tough test for Detroit. The Commissioner has a great preview on the other board that breaks down the game better than just about anyone could. Below is a link to the EMU official preview, which for some reason completely screwed up the hometown and background information of the likely Titan starters. Maybe they will fix it later, but as I write this they list Corey Allen as being from Wichita, Kansas, and Josh from Billings, Montana, among other mistakes. www.emueagles.com/news/2016/11/29/mens-basketball-eastern-heads-to-detroit-for-in-state-rivalry-with-udm.aspxGo Titans.

The Titan struggles continued last night, as EMU won 87-61. Detroit got off to a fast start, taking a 17-7 lead at the 14:30 mark on a Corey Allen three pointer, but that was as good as it got for the Titans on this night. EMU adjusted, got more aggressive going to the basket in the half court and in transition, and lead by four at the half. In the second half, things got out of hand as the Eagles put 48 on the board, holding the Titans to 26. Bright spots included the play of Allen, who scored 20 points and battled the EMU guards all night, and Jaleel Hogan with 11 points and nine rebounds. (Hogan only shot 1-7 from the line, however.) Here is the EMU official recap. emueagles.com/news/2016/11/30/mens-basketball-eagles-stifle-titans-in-second-half-on-way-to-87-61-win.aspx
