The Titans head down to Buckeye country for the second consecutive game, this time taking on Bowling Green State University Falcons. (As far as I can tell, Bowling Green's official university name is Bowling Green State University, but they refer to their sports teams as Bowling Green.) The Titans and Falcons have been regular opponents over the past few years. Like Toledo, Bowling Green makes sense as a Titan opponent and this is the ninth season in a row in which they will meet. The Titans won last season by a score of 95-80. The Falcons season has been a season of streaks. They got off to a bad start, losing four in a row, rebounded to win three in a row, including a home win over Murray State, but then dropped two in a row to Cincinnati and Evansville. Hard to know what to expect from BG. They gave a good Oakland team a good battle, losing by eight, but later played a bad second half in a 15 point loss to a Green Bay team that looks pretty mediocre so far. A strong performance might get Detroit the first D1 win of the season. (Hard to believe I am typing that on December 8.) I was considering going to the game, but uncle responsibilities will keep me local on Saturday. The BG site has this preview of the game. www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2016/12/8/mens-basketball-falcons-return-to-stroh-center-to-face-detroit-mercy-on-saturday.aspx?path=mbballGo Titans.

Excellent preview by Sam; makes me feel redundant. Then Commish does his indefatigable magic on the other site and I'm double redundant. Oh, well, as with modern aircraft systems, redundancies can be a good thing. So on with the show.
The Bowling Green Falcons (3-6 overall, 0-0 in the Mac) will again host the Detroit Titans (1-8, 0-0 in The HL) at the Stroh Center in Bowling Green. Tip-off is at the absurdly early hour of 12:00 Noon on a Saturday. That's criminal but they never asked me what I thought.
The Falcons have been pretty bad, losing 2 for every 1 they win this year. Perhaps of interest to Titan fans, our fellow Horizon League members, Oakland and Green Bay, have logged victories over BG, but common opponent, Murray State, lost by 1 at The Stroh. More recently, Bowling Green has lost their last 2, both on the road, at Cincinnati and Evansville, by scores of 85-56 and 69-66 respectively. They have to be glad to be at home...even if they had to cut the party short Friday night due to an early start on Saturday. Then again, if you are an adherent of the Paris Bass Philosophy of Game Preparation, early games are no reason rain on anyone's parade. Maybe he's right; they're young for a reason.
The Titans can afford no such luxuries. We continue to do what we've done from the tip-off exhibition with Wayne State: We lose. It's up to 8 straight for those of you keeping count. Our RPI has dropped so low that some wags are suggesting it should stand for Really Pathetic Indeed. As of now, we are 333 out of 350 and only 3 spots above, for instance, Bethune-Cookman. And they play almost all their games on the road. Even so, in the last week, the Wildcats are trending upward, having gained 3 spots. By contrast, the Titans have dropped 5 spots in the last week. What this all means, I do not know. But if it continues, we could find ourselves looking up at the aforementioned Wildcats, as well as other prominent black holes in the Division 1 Constellation like Dartmouth, Western Illinois, and Southern Utah. Last time out, Wednesday night, we were on the short end of a 73-65 decision to the Rockets in Toledo. With each successive setback, Titans backers grow ever more restless even as Coach Alexander publically approaches it much as Alfred E. Neuman might--"What? Me worry!?!"
The line for the game is Bowling Green -9 or 9.5. The Over/Under is 149-159ish. That sounds about right, so I'd steer clear of any o/u action. If you really must, take the under. Okay, who wins the game? I'll say that we do because I get paid, albeit very poorly, by the Sisters of Mercy to be a shiny, happy Moosey. The Official Moose Prediction (from the home office in Moose City, Idaho): Detroit Titans 74.5 Bowling Green Falcons 74. GO MERCY TITANS!!!

Hey, Sam. I'm doing well but I'm on the shelf with a nasty bronchial infection. Did I ever tell you just how much I love cold weather? I do hope to finally get back to a the Hall for Saturday's game with WKU. My new job has some odd hours at times and I usually get off too late to make the drive. But, I feel guilty about this because I have to think my absence this year has something to do with our slow start. You know, I like Cliff Russell, too. Sometimes I lose track of what he's describing but I love his style and enthusiasm. He makes for a very pleasant listening experience. I'm so glad we're on the radio. Hope to see you on Saturday.
