The Titans tough road trip continues on Sunday as they travel to Indiana to take on Valpo. This game will be a tough one for the Titans. The Crusaders lost to Oakland yesterday and will be focused. Valpo is 11-4, with losses to Oregon, Kentucky, and a disappointing setback to Santa Clara to go with the loss to the Grizzlies. As usual, Valpo is led by Alec Peters, who is closing out a great career as a Crusader with his best season. Peters averages 24 points and 10 rebounds per game. Two shooting stats of Alec's jump out. He's hitting 92% from the line (great), but only 44% from the floor (not so great and down from his 51% last season). The Titans site has this preview of the game: www.detroittitans.com/news/2017/1/7/valparaiso-up-next-for-detroit-mercy-mens-basketball.aspx

Malik Eichler's coming out party! Was it Sacred Heart Greg who was talking about running plays for him? :-)

Malik Eichler's coming out party! I'd say so. Play him more, let his make and learn from his mistakes. He obviously has some talent - this isn't Jason Bennett we're talking about. I'm not saying he'll be a star but he's not a stiff. He can definitely contribute and in time become a solid player

Foul disparity was 31-14. Foul shooting 33-4. Officials let Valpo's big's body our guys all day; but would not let Hogan play the same way. More positives since that bad 9 minute stretch in the 1st half vs UIC. Nice to see big scoring contributions come from unexpected players like Eichler and Black. Hope Allen's injury can heal with the time off from now until OU game. Glad to see the Titan fans behind the bench on TV.

FYI - Tony Paul, the Detroit News sports reporter actually tweeted about the Valpo game in 1st half:
"Detroit Mercy hanging tough with Valpo on the road, thanks to great minutes from 7-foot freshman Malik Eichler off the bench."

Titans played much better today and were coached much better. It was clear that Allen was less than 100%. I do think the refs favored Valpo (especially in my mind--one late call with Titans down 7, got steal near midcourt but Jenkins called for foul. Looked clean to me, and even to announcers from Valpo. Resulted in big swing late in the game. BUT... bad refs are part of the game you've got to play through.

The Titans look to even the season series with Valpo Sunday afternoon at Calihan Hall. The Crusaders are coming off a road loss to Oakland on Friday night, which means we probably don't catch them looking past us, but maybe they come in a little tired. Valpo holds on to the top spot in the league, basically leading Oakland by a game. As usual, they are led by Alec Peters, who scored 22 points against the Grizz.
Tip Off for Sunday's game is at 2:00 PM. The game will be broadcast on WADL Channel 38 and can be heard on 910 AM.
