On Thursday, February 2, the Titans travel to Cleveland to take on the old foe Gary Waters and the Cleveland State Vikings. The Vikings are struggling this year, and have dropped seven of eight. They are returning home after four in a row on the road, a stretch that began with a surprising win at Oakland. The Vikings are one of my favorite teams in the HL, outside of Detroit, in part because I know Coach Waters through a relative who played for him. Coach Waters is likely on the hot seat at Cleveland, at least among fans. In his ten seasons there, the Vikings have won 54% of their games, with three NIT trips, an NCAA berth, and two trips to the CIT. That's a solid record at a school like CSU, but rumblings have been going on among the fans and some media for a few years now. This is a winnable game for the Titans, and with a trip to Youngstown following the game at Cleveland, Detroit can put together a decent winning streak. One game at a time, though. The Commissioner's preview (hopefully, soon to be followed by the Moose preview) is here: detroittitanhoops.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3200CSU's official preview is here: www.csuvikings.com/sports/m-baskbl/2016-17/releases/20170201e2khcl

I was watching the Lady Titans Thursday night at Calihan Hall, and checking the 'net on my phone on occasion to see how the fellas were doing in Cleveland. Saw that they took a half time lead of 40-33, and the next time I checked, the Vikings had used a 19-0 run in the second half to take control of the game. The final score was CSU 90, Detroit 73. The 90 points represented a season high for Cleveland. The Titans were paced by Corey Allen with 24 points, as he makes a bid for another freshman of the week award. www.csuvikings.com/sports/m-baskbl/2016-17/releases/20170202vpjgok

The Titans take the court tonight for Senior Night, with an opponent (Cleveland State) which is definitely beatable. The Vikings come to Calihan with a record of 8-20, 4-12. CSU has dropped four of five since beating Detroit by 17 on February 2, but have hung tough outside of a blowout loss to Valpo, and their win came over a decent UIC team in Chicago. Health could be an issue for the Titans as Chris Jenkins sat out last game and Jaleel Hogan was injured and had to be helped off the floor at the conclusion of the Titan twenty point loss to Valpo.
