I find myself hoping that IUPUI is able to field a better team in 2022-23 (except when they play U-D). I found myself feeling bad for them as they became a punch line among college basketball observers. Their players continued to play hard and their staff stayed engaged the entire time. I never saw them mail in a game. With their roster being decimated by transfers (and they only had five scholarship players at the end of the season anyway) my thought was that they should hit the JUCO field hard, to add some maturity and experience as they filled out the roster. So far, it looks like that it was they are doing. They have five JUCO players committed or signed for the class of 2022, and it looks like a decent crop. Hasim Abdul Hakim: 6-7 forward. 13 points, 6 rebounds per game. Ranked #40 in the JUCO Recruiting Top 100. Kharye Cayne: 6-10 center. Two time Defensive Player of the Year for his JUCO region. Cooper Dewitt: 6-6 guard/forward. 14ppg, 40% from three, 85% free throws. Jlynn Counter: 6-3 guard. 16ppg, 39% from three, 75% free throws. Daylan Hamilton: 6-3 guard. Former Western Michigan Bronco, currently at Triton College. 10 ppg, shooting percentages of 44, 40, and 73. Always hard to tell how JUCO players will perform at D1, but they all had solid production on good JUCO programs. You have to figure at least two or three will be able to contribute. And over the past week, the Jags made offers to an additional three JUCO players. The Jag class also consists of two incoming freshman, Indianapolis brothers Armon and Ahmad Jarrard. I don't expect much from IUPUI, but it looks like they will at least have a full roster to start the season. Hakim is reopening his recruitment. Hakim may have had some academic issues. He's back in JUCO this coming season. College of Southern Idaho.

You got to give IUPUI credit. Last season they became a punchline and had to hold open tryouts during the season to get enough guys to play. But on June 30 they have added 10 new scholarship players, and most of their additions had multiple D1 offers. The bring in three Indianapolis native freshmen in the class of 2022, They filled out the class with a mix of transfers and JUCO players, adding some valuable experience. And they're already on campus practiciing together and socializing together. I don't know if they Jags will be good this year, but they are a lot better than they were a few months ago and further along preparing for 2022-23 than a lot of teams.

Kidtrell Blocker, a rising junior guard from the U of Buffalo, verbally committed to IUPUI. Blocker saw action in 32 games, averaged 17 minutes per game. He scored 4 ppg to go with 2 rebounds per game.

IUPUI gets a verbal commitment from Abdou Samb, a transfer from Rhode Island. In his one year with the Rams, Samb appeared in 30 games, playing 17 minutes per game. Averaged 3.6 points and 2.7 rebounds. He's 6-8, 210, and was rated a three star recruit in the class of 2021. Scouts like his potential; he scored 14 points against Providence last season. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4709321/abdou-samb

IUPUI gets a new commitment, center Yves Nkomba. He is a transfer from Kennesaw State, but didn't play much. Didn't produce much during two years on the JUCO level, either, but he's 6-11/220, and that kind of guy will almost always find a coach willing to take a chance on him. www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5106661/yves-nkomba

Interesting;y, Jon LeCrone, ex-HL Commissioner, is handling the search.

IUPUI fires Matt Crenshaw. Interesting;y, Jon LeCrone, ex-HL Commissioner, is handling the search. That is interesting. For the Jags sake, they better hope he is better at that job than he was at running the HL. IUPUI is another tough job.

Exactly. Putting LeCrone in charge of a coaching search is kinda like asking an elephant not named Dumbo to fly.

19 day it took IUPUI to get a good D2 coach with winning record of 79-37, 2 conference championships and earn twice #1 seed in the NCAA D2 tournament. That is a solid hire.
To bad they didn't get Andy Bronkema.
