I wonder if the Titans have ever tried to schedule two for one series with low D-I teams, e.g. teams from the SWAC, MEAC, NEC, maybe some others. A lot of those schools like to be bought, with the schools using the money to balance their athletic budgets. But they are also desperate for non-conference home games, and they might like a two for one with a school such as Detroit. They'd be (in most years) pretty easy wins (the Titans, like most schools, often look for a couple easy wins) and it seems to me the finances wouldn't be bad. And we need D-I home games, too.
For example, imagine a three year deal with Bethune Cookman, years 1 and 3 at Calihan. Year two would be in Daytona Beach. Would the Titan kids mind a trip to Daytona Beach right after fall finals? As for B-C, last year they had three non-conference home games: Trinity College, Florida College, and D-I Kennesaw State. In 2015-16, they had Trinity, Trinity Baptist, and D-I Citadel. I think Detroit on the home schedule 1 year would look pretty good.
Or Delaware State. It's even named for a state, so for casual fans it wouldn't be a complete "who the heck is that." The Hornets played three non-conference games at home last year: Summit College, Keystone College, and D-I Texas Southern. The year before they also played three: Penn (a good home game), Summit, and in-state low-major rival Delaware.
Savannah State last year played home non-conference games with Middle Georgia State, Fort Valley State, and D-I Georgia Southern. None of these teams are atypical. That would also be a nice place for the kids to visit after fall exams. You get the picture. Some might be a bit tougher. Would our kids like a trip to New York City? Would that help in recruiting? St. Francis of Brooklyn played 4 non-conference games at home last year, and three were decent--MAAC members Manhattan and St. Peter's, and Lafayette. The other was against Mount St. Vincent.
I don't know the finances of all this, or whether it's been asked and these guys aren't interested. Just a thought during the slow season.
