Athlon becomes the first of the national mags to present their 2017-18 predictions.
1. Oakland 2. UIC 3. NKU 4. Detroit 5. Wright State 6. GB 7. Milwaukee 8. YSU 9. IUPUI 10. CSU
Does that seem high for the Titans? Well, sure, but really, who else is there? It could happen, as everyone has lots of questions marks (and holes) once you get past the top 3 teams. Last year Athlon picked the Titans to finish 7th, and the Titans finished 7th. So there's that.
Predicted All Conference First Team: Dikembe Dixon, UIC Jalen Hayes, Oakland Drew McDonald, NKU Cameron Morse, Youngstown State Kendrick Nunn, Oakland
Second Team: Corey Allen, Detroit Tarkus Ferguson, UIC Lavone Holland, NKU Tai Odiase, UIC Martez Walker, Oakland

Throughout the years we've had many guys transfer from UofM to UofD, some are impactful (Tony Tolbert), others not so much (C.Brundidge). If we get 16 and 10 from Chatman, I think we can win 16 games.

The loss of Valpo bumps a lot of teams up a notch. Oakland should rightfully be the favorite, and I'd probably pick NKU as second, but there are a lot of questions after that. It will be interesting to see if UIC meshes with the return of Dixon and the departure of Santos. I thought Milwaukee was on the way up with Jordan; I'm not sure about the new Panther coach. The Penguins new coach made some news with some recruiting success during the off-season, but it would seem he has a long uphill climb. Should be an interesting season.

I think JJ Jr. will have a long term positive impact on the team, but for now he's a freshman guard on a team that already has Corey Allen and Josh McFolley. I don't think he beats out either one of those guys. I don't expect Hogan to be available, so that hurts. And the defense certainly needs improvement. Overall, a .500 season wouldn't be shocking, however.

Interesting first line in the Athlon's preview of the Titans: "Year 1 for Detroit alum Bacari Alexander did not reverse the Titan fortunes..."
Well, actually, it did. We went from 17 wins the prior season to 8 wins in season one of the Alexander era. That's a pretty big reversal. The narrative that BA took over a program similar to Youngstown State should probably stop, just for the sake of accuracy.

Seemed like he wanted to make it clear that he was disappointed with the season. Thanks for the correction on the record. For some reason I was thinking 17-16 instead of 16-15.

Both Athlon and Lindy's seem much more excited about our star recruit than most Titan fans do. I wonder if we'll get a replay of young Ray McCallum, where many fans seemed far more interested in running him down than realizing what a good player he was and how much he brought to the program.

Yeah, I'm not sure when the pendulum started swinging the other way in fan attitudes regarding JJ Jr., but he's been a guy I wanted the Titans to land since he became a recruitable athlete. I think getting him was big for the program, and I expect him to have a major impact. I'm not sure how quickly he will have that impact, but I expect a very good Titan career for Jr. Seems like some people got irritated at the amount of time it took for JJJ to commit to Detroit, but it's an important decision. Players should take their time and make the right decision. Can't hold it against them for taking their time.

Street and Smith picks the HL this way:
NKU Oakland UIC YSU Milwaukee Cleveland State Wright State Green Bay Detroit IUPUI
Top Player: Dikembe Dixson, UIC Top Newcomer: Vance Johnson, Milwaukee Top Homecourt: NKU
The narrative for Detroit mentions that they lost Hogan to UAB, so they published before the latest news. However, I haven't heard for sure if Hogan is eligible this season. I know he's on the roster, but the Titans usually list players on the roster even if they aren't active, such as transfers and academic red shirts. Be glad to get some certainty on the Hogan status.

Interesting the Street & Smith is back. They had closed up Shop. Someone must have bought the remnants and be trying to resurrect the brand.

I think they are off, esp if Jaleel plays. I started writing up my annual Previews and past the first three, Detroit has as much of more talent as anyone

Did Street & Smith also realize that Coach Jordan has moved to Butler from Milwaukee?

Did Street & Smith also realize that Coach Jordan has moved to Butler from Milwaukee? Yes. They mentioned that in the preview.
