We were informed by the NCAA after Jason was here. I remember getting the whole story from an ex titan who was back at UD. He was giving me the"wait til you see this guy you'll love him". Then we got the letter from the NCAA. Calliste hasn't disappointed I have loved every aspect of his game except that he can not elevate and I am assuming that is from the hip but he still defends well and his bb iq. Is off the charts. This has all been while playing out of position.

That's not so indy. Up has it right. calliste was injured after he was enrolled. his eligibility was denied after he was enrolled. The following is posted on the Detroit Titans official website regarding Jason Calliste. 2009-10: Did not participate in any games as he was enrolled in school meeting NCAA requirements.

Can someone clue me in on what happened with Calhoun? I was excited when we signed him. As Indy knows, I continue to hope we develop the City of Indianapolis as a source of basketball talent. I was expecting him to be on the roster this past season, but then I found out he was not coming and was going to one of the IUPU schools. Sam you missed out on all of the drama in June! Kirky and Indy have it right, when Ray found out that he had a chance to get Wilson or Brundidge (can't remember which one) and we were out of scholarships he orchestrated a scheme to get Calhoun's scholarship even after he had signed his LOI in the middle of the summer. The timing was awful for Calhoun since all of the colleges had already filled their recruiting classes and hence why he had to pay his way this year. Somehow Jason Bennett and his 0.0 GPA from KSU (I highly doubt he turned things around at CC for a year) met UD standards but not Calhoun. Ironically, a few days after Calhoun was "not admitted", the signing of either Wilson or Brundidge was announced. Not one of Ray's most professional moments ever...

Indy this is true but Calliste was already enrolled when UD was informed about the error in the clearing house letter and that after further investigation it was determined that some of Jason's grades from Canada which were considered sufficient at QEA were not compatible for eligibility due to QEAs accreditation. If I remember correctly Calhoun was told that the team was to be on campus at a certain date and didn't show and didn't call. He was coming off of surgery but still was required to report with the rest of the team. The trainer at UD would have helped his rehab but he called later to find out when he should come. Maybe a misunderstanding on both ends but it gave Detroit a read on the player they didn't like an a opportunity to exit the agreement and they took it to sign what they thought would be a better player. Had Calhoun arrived on campus when expected I am not sure who would not be here now.

The following is posted on the Detroit Titans official website regarding Jason Calliste. 2009-10: Did not participate in any games as he was enrolled in school meeting NCAA requirements. It's a floor wax, and a dessert topping. These arugments are not incompatible. As I'm reading what people are saying, the argument is that Calliste was admitted, and then the NCAA held that he was not eligible. But why would UD admit someone who couldn't even meet NCAA standards? Well, he did when he was admitted. Calliste, remember, attended Quality Education Academy the first year it expanded to include high school and become a basketball factory. There is no particular reason that an admissions official wouldn't have seen an accredited school, a sufficient GPA and test scores, and the proper distributionals, and admitted the student. Later the rather questionable management of QEA began to come out. Or maybe there were other questions about transfers of Canadian credits and such. But the NCAA in fact did not rule Calliste ineligible until November 9 of his freshman year. I'm not sure what the basis was, but it wouldn't have been known to admissions officers when he was admitted, and may not even have mattered (the NCAA's concerns are not always equal to those of schools). Calhoun was denied admission in June of 2012. I've never heard of an athletic program pushing an admissions department *not* to admit a kid. The timing certainly looked suspicious, no doubt about that. But either way, I don't think that Calliste sheds any light on it, because he was clearly admitted an attending classes *before* he was ruled ineligible by the NCAA.

Another update, April 6: I've added Ali Farhat. He's a longshot - I know UD's staff has been around to watch him, though whether they are actively recruiting is another story. He was the state's leading scorer this year in Class A. He's probably going to have to settle for D-II, but one could see him getting a late offer if others don't sign.
April 4: Here's an updated list. I've removed A.J. West after his commitment to Nevada. I've also removed A.J. Riley (these A.J.s are bad news) who sat out his senior year of HS and has reportedly lost all his D-I offers. I just can't see that we're recruiting him at all. There's a couple other guys on this list I doubt we're still interested in, but not knowing I've left them on. And I've added Ayinde Sprewell, thanks to TJMK for the tip.

I have a feeling that we will announce a couple of commits on Mon or Tues maybe an assist coach by Wed. Nothing to base these feelings on except gut. That would be nice. The information vacuum is troubling, although it's actually not unusual for their to be no word until the actual commitments are made. We'd all like some actual definitive information to talk about.

Not only is it unusual, it is against NCAA rules! It is as simple as that- Coaches are not allowed to discuss players until the LOI is signed- and that can only occur during the fall and spring signing periods.

Yeah, but it's pretty common for players to make announcements, tweet, or tell some reporter or blogger. But UD recruits have been pretty quiet in recent years until the announcement is made.

Yeah, but it's pretty common for players to make announcements, tweet, or tell some reporter or blogger. But UD recruits have been pretty quiet in recent years until the announcement is made. I remember DeBerry had a press conference at his school - the typical sitting at a table with his parents and coach signing a LOI, holding up a Titan shirt or wearing a Titan hat, a story in the local paper, a Facebook post on his or the school's page, etc. but no peep from us, even though it was during the signing period. That was kind of strange for him to do knowing he may not make it through the NCAA clearinghouse.

I know the coaches don't make any comment early. I was thinking more along the lines of social media announcements by players, updates on recruiting websites, etc. For example, we know AJ West is going to Nevada, even though he has not officially signed.
