Manuel declared for the draft. I hate to be critical, but outside of the middle Ball brother, I can't think off the top of my head of a player whose basketball career has been so mismanaged. Manuel has had at least one workout with an NBA team. Wasn't invited to the combines, though. He will have to really shine in these workouts to get drafted, but he can possibly get a Summer League invite.

Good landing spot for Grayer, at least from the standpoint of landing at a good high major program. Good pick up for TCU for depth purposes. Not sure how much playing time that Grayer will get there. Desmond Bane, the guy who started at that shooting guard position last year decided to withdraw from the NBA draft and return to TCU. The Horned Frogs had already added a grad transfer and a JUCO player at that position in case Bane stayed in the draft.

New offers noted today for Deyonta Davis and Lacy James. Deyonta Davis was waived by the Atlanta Hawks today. Davis had a fast rise, moving quickly from under the radar prospect with a U-D offer to five star recruit/MSU commit. He had a relatively good freshman season for the Spartans, but seemed to still have some work to do. He declared for the draft however, and went in the second round. Three seasons in, Davis has played in 107 NBA games (only 9 this past season) and is averaging four points per game. He's made decent money, relatively speaking, but the holes in his game are obvious. He might get another shot, but in retrospect he should have stayed at MSU for at least another year to develop his game further.

I noticed that former Titan commit Lacey James, now a senior at Northern Illinois, scored 19 points with 13 rebounds in a win yesterday vs Buffalo

Early 2015 Titan target Khari Willis is getting a lot of time at defensive back for the Michigan State football team this season, in part due to injuries at the position. He's playing well. Made a couple of plays in the big MSU win over the Wolverines last week. Former Titan recruit Khari Willis is starting at defensive back for the Spartans and was also named team captain for the season. Nice to see him doing well. I still wonder what he would have been like as a college basketball player, but he is shining as a football Spartan. Edit: And 15 minutes after I made that post, Willis intercepted a pass and returned it twenty yards. :-) Watching the Lions game today and Indianapolis Colts defensive back Khari Willis came up and made a great tackle on the Lions running back. Young Mr. Willis has made the big time. Good for him.

Don't get too excited, because they were playing the Lions

NIU's twitter account posted a pick of Lacey James in his uniform with the caption "Happy Birthday @laceyjames10! We can't wait to finally have you on the floor this year!" I hope his health concerns are in the past and that he has a solid career. Remember Lacey James, the one time Titan commit, who if I remember correctly, had his basketball scholarship pulled when career threatening heart problems were discovered, scored a team-high 17 points last night as NIU cruised to victory in its season opener.

Zags Blog had this article about Nick Perkins and his commitment to Buffalo. I wonder if Zagoria would have had an article like this if Perkins had committed to Detroit, or if this was just an example of Bobby Hurley's name drawing some extra attention. From the article, Perkins says he chose Buffalo because of the "great coaching staff and the opportunity to be an impact player as a freshman." I read elsewhere that Perkins cited the relationship he with current Buffalo assistant/former Romulus coach Nate Oats as a factor. Perkins said he has known Oats for years. Looking at Buffalo's roster, Nick is likely to start there as a freshman. I don't think the Titan staff could guarantee that with AFS and Jaleel just ahead of him and LJ in the same class. zagsblog.com/articles/buffalo-lands-power-forward-nick-perkins/Big Nick Perkins, who the Titans had in for an official visit when he at Milan High School, will be playing on ESPN tonight at 8:00 PM in The Basketball Tournament. Nick had a fine career at Buffalo and from what I heard at the time, he had a tough choice between Buffalo and us. The quoted post above mentions Nate Oats, who was a Buffalo assistant at the time Nick committed and not far removed from being the head coach at Romulus High School. Now, of course, he's making huge money as the coach of Alabama. Life comes at you fast.
