This is the annual thread for discussing media and other predictions for the Horizon League. As usual, I'll put a little chart up here at the top of the thread and fill it in with updates as predictions become available. The first magazines should probably start appearing in about a month, but College Sports Madness is already out with its top 2 based on its "144" projections. Source/Team | CSU | UDM | GB | UIC | IUPUI | Milw. | NKU. | Oak. | WSU | YSU | Horizon League Poll | 7 | 10 | 5 | 3 | 6 | 8 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 9 | Athlon | 7 | 10 | 4 | 2 | 6 | 9 | 3 | 5 | 1 | 8 | Lindys | 8 | 10 | 6 | 3 | 5 | 7 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 9 | Street & Smith (TSN) | 5 | 9 | 4 | 3 | 7 | 8 | 1 | 6 | 2 | 10 | Blue Ribbon | 6 | 10 | 4 | 3 | 5 | 9 | 2 | 8 | 1 | 7 | CBS Sports | 8 | 9 | 4 | 3 | 7 | 6 | 2 | 5 | 1 | 10 | ESPN | 7 | 10 | 5 | 3 | 8 | 6 | 1 | 4 | 2 | 9 | Sports Illustrated | 7 | 9 | 5 | 2 | 6 | 7 | 3 | 4 | 1 | 10 | Bar Stool Sports | 8 | 9 | 6 | 3 | 4 | 7 | 1 | 5 | 2 | 10 | 3 Man Weave | 5 | 9 | 4 | 2 | 6 | 8 | 3 | 7 | 1 | 10 | CBB Central | 5 | 8 | 4 | 3 | 6 | 9 | 2 | 7 | 1 | 10 | Hero Sports | 7 | 10 | 5 | 3 | 8 | 6 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 9 | College Hoop News | 9 | 10 | 8 | 3 | 5 | 7 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 6 | Mid-Major Madness | 7 | 10 | 4 | 3 | 5 | 9 | 2 | 6 | 1 | 8 | Hoops HD | 7 | 10 | 5 | 3 | 4 | 8 | 2 | 6 | 1 | 9 | Busting Brackets | 8 | 9 | 4 | 2 | 5 | 6 | 3 | 7 | 1 | 10 | Computer Rankings | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Ken Pomeroy | 8 | 10 | 5 | 3 | 7 | 6 | 2 | 4 | 1 | 9 | Sagarin | 8 | 10 | 5 | 4 | 6 | 7 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 9 | Torvik's T-Rank | 4 | 9 | 5 | 3 | 6 | 7 | 1 | 8 | 2 | 10 |

Not a media poll but from a decent follow on twitter Thanks, Phan. I checked out his twitter page. He had some interesting stuff there.

A decent follow on Twitter...in other words, a nobody. Well, he writes for Busting Brackets, so it's not unlikely his picks will be its picks. Most of the old pre-season mags and now preseason blogs are one beat writer that the mag/blog assigns to cover the conference, sometimes with some input from the editors or other writers. What strikes me is how very weak the Horizon is after the first three teams. For example, he picks Milwaukee 4th. Milwaukee loses its top 4 scorers, top 3 rebounders, top 3 in assists, and 5 of its top 6 in minutes played from a team that finished 16-17 last year. They've got a couple decent additions coming in, but nothing truly earth-shattering. Yet, who from that pack below them is clearly a better choice? Grim year for the HL.

A site that uses an analytical approach, similar to KenPom, relying heavily of stuff like points per possession. Still a little puzzled how with only half a roster this type of prediction can be made... 126 Northern Kentucky 141 Wright St. 147 Illinois Chicago 213 Cleveland St 227 Green Bay 269 IUPUI 291 Oakland 292 Milwaukee 331 Youngstown St. 338 Detroit (5-16) www.barttorvik.com/conf.php?conf=Horz&year=2019

By mid-year, when they've got some data, the good ones --like Ken Pom--tend to be very accurate. But in the pre-season? No. Having said that, I think almost everybody is going to pick NKU, WSU, and UIC in the top 3 slots, with UIC usually third. After that it's a total crap shoot, but pretty much everyone is going to pick our boys last, or perhaps 8th or 9th. These rankings don't look too bad. I think Green Bay will do OK and CSU and OU could both surprise.

It's interesting that the site found by hsscout1 assumes the following roster for us in those predictions: 1. Cole Long 2. Gerald Blackshear, Jr. 3. Corey Hightower 4. B.J. Simmons 5. Malik Eichler 6. Ed Carter III 7. Jacob Joubert 8. Bass Ollie Certainly a GIGO formula here. But I like it that we are being picked dead last this season. I think we have a good chance to overachieve relative to these midsummer predictions.

ESPN is out with its preseason Top 100. No Horizon teams.
A number of Titan non-conference opponents appear: Toledo (97), Dayton (58), Temple (44), and Butler (28). Surprisingly, no Xavier.

Sam, I haven't personally seen Athlon's or Lindy's at my grocery store yet (although I have read that they are out - at least in digital form). One question for you (& you don't have to go into a lot of detail) - how do they preview Detroit? - What I mean is that these magazines had to have gone to print way prior to any new player announcements (and all the players haven't even been announced yet). Do they mention any players besides the returners & maybe Davis's son, or is it just something generic like "don't expect much from Davis his 1st season in Detroit since almost everyone left and bringing in a competitive whole new team/quality players so late in the recruiting cycle is going to be a next to impossible task"...

I picked up both magazines at Meijer last night, after checking everyday this week. They must have just been put out on display. Your thoughts are correct. Lindy's mentions young Davis, but also lists last year's walk ons: Joubert, Ollie, Musial, and Carter. Athlon mentions young Davis, McFolley, and Long, calling Long a "heady wing". No newcomers besides Davis were mentioned by either magazine. Both publications stress how much of a disaster last season was, and Athlon mentions the seven game suspension for BA.

This season will be interesting to say the least. There is a little talent, but the key to having any success this season (& by success, I'm thinking a .500 conference record at the very best), is going to be coaching players up, getting them to play hard and as a team (which means Dr Davis better have a chemistry degree with so many different and unfamiliar pieces being added to the team)
