Aidan Shaw, a forward from Kansas, committed to Missouri in the class of 2022. Shaw is a Rivals four star, ranked ranked 57 in the nation. Good pick up for the Tigers, who are trying to keep up with the heavy hitters in SEC recruiting. n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/aidan-shaw-256507

Couple of SEC teams land five star guards. Jaden Bradley to Alabama, Nick Smith to Arkansas. www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/238286/jaden-bradley247sports.com/player/nick-smith-46086035/I noticed that Nick Smith had an all "A" final four of Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Been seeing more of that lately, where a highly ranked high school recruit will include a mid major in his final choices before making his decision. They never go to the small school, so I don't know why they do it. Do they think they are doing the small school a favor, maybe getting them a mention on some well read Twitter accounts? Does it make a difference in the long run if the mid major isn't chosen? I doubt it. I remember the Titans getting that treatment from Antoine Joubert and Robert Traylor, and Chris Webber even took an official to U-D. I don't think it did anything for us when it came to future recruiting. I have it on good authority from a UDJ source that Cassius Winston liked Coach Ray and appreciated how hard he was recruited, and I was glad that CW didn't give us a token mention in his "final" list before making his decision.

Rivals five star Julian Phillips committed to LSU in the class of 2022. Phillips is a small forward from Branson, Missouri and had offers from all of the Power Five conferences, as well as the Big East and the AAC. Will Wade has done a good job of recruiting at LSU and, expect for a five game suspension, has so far dodged consequences from his role in that FBI investigated "pay for play" scandal. We'll see if the other shoe ever drops on that. n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2022/julian-phillips-256083

Official SEC predictions:
1. Kentucky 2. Alabama 3. Arkansas 4. Tennessee 5. Auburn 6. LSU 7. Florida 8. Mississippi State 9. Ole Miss 10. Missouri 11. South Carolina 12. Texas A&M 13. Vanderbilt 14. Georgia
Some thoughts: Once again Kentucky is counting on a talented freshman class. That didn't work last year. Tom Crean has shown some gradual improvement at Georgia, and seemed poised for a pretty good 21-22, but the transfer portal was not kind and the Dogs have ten new players on the roster; a last place finish in year four could hurt Crean's security. Bama, Arkansas, and Tennessee should continue their recent rise. Ben Howland and former Titan assistant Ernie Z are in their seventh season at Miss State and would love to get their second NCAA bid in Starksville this season. Buzz Williams certainly doesn't want to finish 12th after coming in 14th last season, particularly with the fanfare in which he arrived at Texas A&M. Frank Martin could be on the hot seat at South Carolina. In nine years there, he's made one NIT and one NCAA tournament, with no postseason in the last four seasons. His Final Four run in 2016-17 raised expectations.

Auburn has been one of the top stories in college basketball this season, and currently sit at #1 in the AP poll. The Tigers got a very light "punishment" from the NCAA for what were relatively serious violations and haven't looked back. They'll keep cheating.
Kentucky, Tennessee, and LSU are also ranked and Mississippi State has got some good wins on their way to a 14-7 record. Alabama and Arkansas have both been up and down, with some good wins and really weird losses. Georgia and Missouri are the "have nots" in the league so far this year.
Auburn seems to have the clearest past to the regular season crown.

The SEC officially announced an All SEC first team with NINE players on it. That's just senseless.

Dennis Gates moving fast at Missouri, and already got his first commitment. It's a big one: 6-11 JUCO forward/center Mohammed Diarra, who is ranked number one on the JUCO Recruiting Top 100. Reportedly averaged 18 and 12 this season.

Sharpe actually enrolled early at Kentucky, with the plan being to redshirt in 2021-22 and make his debut with the 'Cats in 2022-23. Change in plans: Sharpe has declared for the NBA draft and will NOT return to Kentucky. So the much celebrated commitment will result in the kid never playing a minute for UK.

Mike White going to Georgia is an interesting move for him, he obviously needed to get out of Florida, but Georgia is a graveyard for college coaches, it will be interesting to see if it works out for him.

Yeah, Georgia is definitely a tough job and it's not one that has been able to take advantage of the portal and NIL rules. We'll see if White can make a difference.
