FWIW, registration currently underway, students moving into dorms this week, classes begin Monday. If there is an additional MBB recruit coming to Calihan this season, we should hear something soon.

Well said, understanding the college basketball landscape is not "your father's " NCAA. College basketball these days is a combination of what was AAU and JUCO ball was just a few years ago, plus these days players are kind free agents. Coaches and teams that can't adjust to this environment are destined to exist to play for early paychecks, weak leagues and play-in NCAA games. Agreed. Heck, it's not even the NCAA it was 3 years ago. Players bounce around for no good reason in some cases, simply because they can. Programs use NIL as a salary for players, outbidding other schools. It's more difficult than it used to be to create and maintain a roster. And where some coaches used to be able to close the talent gap with player development, these days you might not have a player long enough for that development to pay off for you. Tough environment for sure.

I'll beat the drum in this thread as I do in other threads...PUT NAMES ON JERSEYS!!! It is especially important nowadays as we barely get to know a guy before he's gone. We need to do whatever we can to get to know the team, its players, etc. I know I sound like an old timer but alas, this is what I'm needing Definitely. Give the fans another opportunity to connect with players. Heck, the players themselves probably don't know everyone on the roster in early practices. 🙂 And seriously, if names aren't on the jerseys because of cost concerns, you probably need to shut down the whole program.

That is why they gave #’s on the Jersey’s. We already have to many individuals on what should be a team! We only have 13-15 guys. Once you watch 1 game you will know them all, grab a program on your way in or if you do not go to the games print a copy of roster off of your phone. We have guys with different shoes, headbands, wristbands, different lengths and colors of socks etc. TEAM!!

However, I always thought that fans put more emphasis on "No names on the jersey means a focus on the team" more than players and most coaches do. I think that if you are doing the various things that do build good team chemistry, the names on the jersey won't hurt it. For example, you and I both prefer to see the team doing summer workouts together, rather than players working with their individual trainers. I hope that the guys that have been around campus have been doing that. Of course, we really don't know when players have been arriving to do that, but I hope it is taking place.

If I were a player or his family I would want my name on the jersey. I would be proud of that. And in this day and age it could lead to NIL money.
I think the average fan does way better with names on jerseys. They aren't on this board. And lord knows we've lost lots and lots of fans over the past 10, 20, 40 years both in person at Calihan and just overall out in the world. We should do ANYTHING we can to raise awareness of the team.
PS - I mentioned last year, the Oakland jerseys were actually really sharp this past year. They looked professional and cool, where our jerseys were clearly a step behind in design, etc. Hopefully the new Nike deal will change that.

The signed players and Pink practiced together this summer. Players were then permitted to do their own thing last week ahead of returning to school this week. Some went home to visit family one last time before school starts. Some, like Parks, went home but still worked out with his trainer. Official fall practice can begin about 6 weeks ahead of the first regular season game. Only Liddell, Moss and the 13th scholarship player did not practice with the team this past summer.

When is the last time they sold programs at home games? Probably at least ten years since they sold programs. As you are aware, Titan fans get a free “poster program” at every game that just has the bare necessities, but does include the names/numbers of the home and visiting teams.

Talking about programs makes me want a media program. I think the last one published is from 2004. I'll be happy to do what it takes to have one.

Not sure if you are aware, but there is an online version of the media guide available on the DetroitTitans website. The SIO does all the work of updating and formatting the annual document, it’s just not cost-effective to publish and sell at sufficient volume to cover costs (I guess).
