Thought I'd fire up a thread for those of us that watch/follow Michigan prep hoops. Practices officially started November 5, games kickoff Nov 26.
Bank Hoops recently tweeted out their top 10 teams for the Div 1 and 2:
Division 1 preseason top 10:
1. U-D Jesuit (22-4 2017-18)
2. Muskegon (20-4)
3. Cass Tech (16-5)
4. Grand Blanc (19-4)
5. Renaissance (14-7)
6. AA Pioneer (11-10)
7. Orchard Lake St. Mary's (15-8)
8. Okemos (20-5)
9. Novi Catholic Central (12-9)
10. AA Skyline (23-1)
Div. 2 preseason top 10:
1. Benton Harbor (27-1 in 2017-18)
2. River Rouge (23-2)
3. New Haven (26-1)
4. Williamston (22-3)
5. GR South Christian (17-8)
6. GR Catholic Central (24-3)
7. Detroit Henry Ford (17-6)
8. GR Christian (14-10)
9. Country Day (17-7)
10. Bridgeport (24-2)
As commented on in other threads, there's not as much high end D1 talent as in past years - partly cyclical, partly due to out of state prep schools. It will be interesting when Commish does his final count of guys in this senior class that go D1.
Couple of big games I could find so far in the schedules, although not everything is announced yet... Dec 1 - it appears there's a slate of games at Calihan Hall for the annual (2nd yr?) Catholic League vs MAC. The main event will be #1 Div 1 UD Jesuit vs #3 Div 2 New Haven starring Romeo Weems who is off to MCSam's Depaul. Dec 11 - #1 UDJesuit vs #4 Grand Blanc Feb 2- #4 Grand Blanc vs #2 Muskegon
Anyhow, throw up any insights or interesting games you know about or are going to. I will surely make a few of the UD Jesuit games, especially with how loaded they are with 4 seniors going D1.

Great idea for a thread. I plan on catching some PSL and Catholic League action, especially UDJ and Renaissance. I saw Romeo Weems play as a freshman. He was raw, but you could tell he was talented. He was a high major recruit then, and I certainly didn't expect DePaul to land him. Another player to keep an eye on is Emoni Bates, who is a freshman at Ypsilanti, Lincoln this year. Bates is ranked by some as the top player in the nation in his class. Already has an offer from DePaul, but I am not expecting lightening to strike twice for the Blue Demons. future150.com/jr/basketball-profiles/emoni-bates-sf-ypsilanti-mi-2022

I've seen some saying he'll bust the one & done rule and figure out some way to go straight to NBA.

River Rouge beat Detroit Osborn yesterday, 85-25. Micah Parris (identified as a Titan recruit) had 11 points and five rebounds for RR, Donovan Freeman had 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Freeman is a senior and ranked slightly higher than Parris in the Detroit News' list. I couldn't find Freeman in the Verbal Commits database, wonder if Detroit Mercy is looking at him too.

I would love for a kid from my high school to go to DePaul. :-) Emoni will probably be moving on to one of the out of state basketball factories in the next year or two.

I was at the UD Jesuit vs Detroit Redford Novi Catholic Central game last night. UDJ won 74-62 in a pretty thrilling matchup of the top teams in the Catholic League and 2 of the top in Division 1 this year. Alot of points scored and a very up tempo game.
CC doesn't seem to have any D1 guys on their roster, or at least that I'm aware of. Yet they are among the top teams, they just have a bunch of athletic, sound players and are well coached.
UDJ of course has Daniel Friday (Brown commit) who was a beast last night. Julian Dozier had a good game and has been offered by Oakland and Eastern among a few other mid majors. We'll see where he ends up but with the early departure of Neely perhaps OU puts the press on to nab Dozier. Jalen Thomas (UMass commit) was in his first game back after suffering an early season broken foot. He STILL seems to lack confidence out there, and despite being a big body and looking like an imposing athlete he just isn't hasn't taken the steps forward to become an elite big man. We'll see if part of it was rust from the injury. I understand he's a good kid, but he's not at the level of the Nigerian big men from a few seasons back.
Interestingly Caleb Hunter (said to have offer from UDM) wasn't suited up (but was on the bench) and I don't think he's played all season -- missing the first part due to sitting out after transferring from Southfield Christian. I don't know when he might be cleared this season, if at all. I didn't pick up intel on that front.

Congratulations to New Haven senior and DePaul signee Romeo Weems. The record he broke stood for a LONG time. Sims went on to play at Washington State.
From New Haven's twitter account.
"Big congrats to Romeo Weems on becoming New Haven’s all time leading scorer with 1,869 points surpassing a 48 year record of 1,840 points held by Rocket great Eli Sims since 1971. What a great accomplishment to an amazing young man!"
