I found this list of basketball budgets for 2017/18 for all D1 teams. We're at 174, just over $2.3 million. I'm guessing we're higher this season with a new coach, additional staff and possibly higher assistant salaries. The rest of the Horizon, FYI: 125 Wright State University-Main Campus $3,050,260 162 Cleveland State University $2,503,813 169 University of Illinois at Chicago $2,417,955 174 University of Detroit Mercy $2,350,993 180 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee $2,241,355 190 Oakland University $2,110,672 205 University of Wisconsin-Green Bay $1,954,390 222 Northern Kentucky University $1,829,151 270 IUPUI $1,556,965 275 Youngstown State University $1,535,346 www.volnation.com/forum/threads/men%C2%92s-basketball-budgets-2017-18.289490/

Interesting. In 2015-16, we were #154 at $2,467,735, second only to Milwaukee. Just a few years back, I recall we were second to Butler in the conference. So 3 others have passed us by.

Wow, I didn't realize we had slipped to fourth in the conference.

Interesting to note that Texas Southern has a budget about $1 million less than ours. I recall when Coach took the Titan job some were suggesting it was even a step down. What fans don't always realize is that the quality of a job/program is not the last 5 years W/L record.

Even a program like Butler didn't eclipse a program like Indiana when the Bulldogs were having those back to back Finals appearances.

Does the tuition cost of scholarships factor into this equation? If so, the recent Detroit Mercy tuition reset program could explain roughly $150K in less expenditures for MBB.

To paraphrase Jules Winfield in Pulp Fiction, "Check out the big brain on Bob!" That's a good question. Not sure of the answer.

I don't know, but I think it does, and if so that's a good point. I don't think there are rigid accounting standards for this either. I'm not sure on that, but I think it's possible for one school to call something a men's basketball expense, and another to allocate some of that cost differently to other sports or departments. But I don't know.
