Traditionally, once a player commits, we create a thread for them here for player specific posts. I was going to hold off on creating this for D. Rose, Jr., but then Antoine Davis re-tweeted and commented on his commitment post on Twitter, so I guess it is as official as we'll get until the official release. As stated in the 2019 Recruiting Thread, Rose was a three star recruit in the class of 2017 who hails from Illinois (so possibly a player that Dildy had connected with previously.) He landed at Toledo. After playing sparingly behind some talented guards, he transferred and spent last season at Southwest Illinois College, a community college. Observers were impressed with Rose in high school, as he earned three star ratings from 24/7 and ESPN. On the surface, looks like a good pick up for backcourt help, considering we basically have AD, Hamrick, and walk on players there for next year. With two years of post high school maturation behind him, perhaps Rose can show the ability that led to those three star ratings. Welcome. Rose has a nice family pedigree, and as noted was a 3-star per some sources in high school. He signed early with Toledo, committing in October and signing in the early signing period in November of his senior year. Still, I'm a little concerned that all the offers listed on Verbal Commits came in the spring of his junior year--he didn't seem to draw more offers during the AAU season. His senior HS team went 13-7, good but not great. A year at Toledo playing less than 50 minutes all season, then to juco with so-so numbers. I don't know anything about him but these raw stats, but my first thought is that they fit the profile of a player whose development stalled out after his junior year in high school.
But I have confidence in our coaches to evaluate talent. He had good reviews in HS and can play both guard positions. He's not a big guard, but at 6-3/185 he's not tiny and he's got a solid frame. He was reportedly an excellent shooter in HS and his numbers at Toledo--though a very small sample size--support that (5-10 from the floor, 2-4 from 3, 11-11 from the stripe). At UT he got stuck behind two very good upperclassmen scoring guards, Jaelean Sanford and TreShaun Fletcher, and beat out by another freshman, Marreon Jackson (who's a pretty good player (11.7 points, 4.2 assists last year as a soph) for the back up slot. So I'm hopeful.
Welcome Dwayne to the Titan family.

I have to say, Rose has outplayed the expectations I had for him this year. Lately he's looking like the player who signed with Toledo out of high school after earning a three star rating. He's been a testament to hard work.
Good work, young man.

He made three drives through fairly tough contact that didn’t count yesterday (two charges and a questionable on the floor foul call). Last year he would have missed at least one, probably two of those.
