“A mid-major coach told me finding buy games is up in the air and it's an issue because he needs that money for his program in order for it to run functionally and fund the athletic department. Another coach said it is in his contract to schedule X-number of buy games per year that total up to at least $275,000 for his school. Come the summer, when the schedule scramble hits a frenzy, the money might not be there.”

Woman's basketball also makes money on buy games that are important to the budget.

There are going to be a lot of home and home agreements made, possibly some where both games take place this same season. As for the buy games, the rich schools will proceed with caution. While a school might have offered 90k for a buy game last season, I think that number needs to be greatly reduced so much as the NCAA and conferences allow. Can’t guarantee people will be buying tickets this season. I assume that UDM will end up brokering as many home and home agreements as we can with schools that are a 4 hour bus ride away or less. Buy games will be hard to get, and they will pay less. Where does the $ difference come from? Not endowment spinoff, not donors, not tuition & fees. I have no idea. Sure, we can just play less games, but we still need to pay for scholarships, coach salaries, athletics administration. What a hot mess this might be, especially for mid majors that were cash strapped before corona.

If schools are reluctant to schedule buy games, maybe the Titans can get a home games with the likes of Dayton, Xavier, or other relatively close schools that won't normally play us at home any more. They come to Detroit this year (may not even be a season, or a season with no fans), and we visit there the following year--they get the home game in year two without having to pay a guarantee--we get the home game in year one, with the gamble that fans will be able to attend, and if they can't, well, we still play them at home. I don't know if that makes sense or is a possibility, but it occurs to me.
The transfer issue isn't really a Corona Virus issue--it just is.

This is what you need:
NCAA easing academic requirements for HS seniors:
- Will be academically eligible with 2.3 GPA in 10 NCAA-approved core courses, with combined 7 courses in English, math & science, by start of 7th semester in HS (prior to SR year). Criteria do NOT require standardized test score.

Why are they waiving proof of graduation? I thought I read it as - official documentation verifying graduation would be waived if a school was closed due to the Covid situation since the student wouldnt be able obtain the needed paperwork (like if the main office is closed). However, unofficial proof, whatever that is, would be accepted

The more I think about, I find it hard to believe that a lot of these non-con games currently being scheduled end up being played. That is, unless the public health issues rapidly progress on all fronts, especially testing. Universities have to protect their student bodies, and schools will lose a lot of money with no football and no MBB, but they’ll lose a hell of a lot more with no kids on campuses. Like it or not, there will be a national resurgence of COVID at some point this fall. I really don’t like the idea of the school I work at having 80,000 people on campus 7 times this fall and exposing my kids. I think, best case scenario, we get college football without fans (MAYBE students can attend), and we get a reduced MBB season (something like a couple non-con games per team with schools close by and then conference schedules of 15-20 games - no fans).
It’s way too risky on the PR front for universities to go full speed ahead. Imagine if you’re a large school, you host a few football games early fall, and then by November you have a COVID outbreak. That will happen, and eventually a student will die because they had asthma or some undetected heart issue. It’s one thing to risk lives by opening campuses and having classes, another to also let thousands of people come to your campus to watch football and basketball.
Universities need to acquire thousands of COVID tests, masks, and thermometers by fall. Plus gallons of hand sanitizer. And, they need to make or designate single room dorms and hotel rooms as possible self-isolation quarters for when kids inevitably test positive.
We’ll be lucky to see the Titans play a total of 20 games this coming season, all on tv with no fans.
