Well, that's disappointing. And unexpected. Supposedly he came to UD to play with AD. They used to practice together in the summers. AD left so he probably is thinking why am I here? I am disappointed also but I was expecting this and probably one more!

On the positive side, there has to be some players out there that now see an opportunity to fill this void and would now find UD to be a place to be interested in. Not to mention current UD team members who will no longer be in ADs shadow.

Well, that's disappointing. And unexpected. This is absolutely disappointing. Dont get me wrong, I'm certain that we will see some "good news from the transfer portal" posts in the coming weeks and months... but there is something to be said for retaining players that have already played together before. We've already proven (to me at least) that our ability to take in a handful of talented players and try to find immediate success is not a winning formula. Unless we can find the magic formula in this day and age to not only find talent but keep it together for a few years, we will have a tough time winning... even in an awful conference.

Unless, something changes in the current college basketball environment with the transfers and NIL, the future of being the next St Peters is dim, in fact, the St Peters from last March is not the same as today's St Peters.

Harvey's decision is puzzling. I guess I could understand it if he was just done with college basketball and was planning to take his chances overseas, but I don't get the transfer. Harvey played well the last part of the season, scoring double figures and shooting a high percentage often. I don't think he has played better for an extended period than he did then. He would have a bigger role next season, given the absence of Davis. Is that not what he was looking for? Also, there is no guarantee that he gets a waiver. Is he someone likely to get an NIL deal? I'd be surprised.
The mentality of players is different today, even when compared to a few years ago. I can remember when players would jump at the chance to take over as team leader and stamp their legacy on a program.

As someone who follows ND and UDM, the DJ Harvey saga sure is interesting. Harvey committed to the Irish in September of 2016 as a 4 star recruit and #53 in ESPN’s recruiting class for 2017. That was big news because ND basketball really doesn’t get recruits rated that high. It’s a program that mostly relies on 3 and 4 star recruits, being clear that you likely won’t play much the first two years, and that the Irish simply play old guys. You’ll get a degree from a great institution and likely play in Europe after that, but it’s just not the place you go to for a year hoping to play in the NBA (Blake Wesley being a recent and notable exception, but he was from South Bend).
So with Harvey, I distinctly remember thinking, “gosh, I hope we keep this guy and he doesn’t leave for the NBA or a pro career before he graduates.” Of course, we know the rest of the story. A relatively disappointing two years at ND, followed by a transfer to Vandy. Then, after getting his degree from Vandy, one year at UDM. Again, it’s just weird to witness. I’m sure when Harvey was in HS he was thinking the NBA was a real possibility with a top league in Europe as a fallback. Now, here he is about to be in college for a 6th year with even a decent European career looking like a reach. Not to say he shouldn’t keep playing. He should, and he should take every advantage that comes his way. But, damn, it’s weird to see a guy I thought would be playing pro ball in 2018 or 2019 to still be playing college ball in 2023.
It’s impossible not to like DJ Harvey. He keeps his head down and plays hard and smart. Sad to see him leaving UDM. I hope he’s doing well, and hope his wife and newborn are doing well. Godspeed, DJ!

He got a waiver last year so he would need another waiver to be eligible in 2022-23.
Wouldn’t surprise me if he ends up staying at Detroit.

That would be nice. How many waivers can one man receive?

I don’t think anyone really has good handle on how easy/hard it will be to get a waiver in the current NCAA transfer-portal-gone-crazy environment. Perhaps having two young children and needing to be closer to family might provide acceptable mitigating circumstances for a waiver. Maybe DJ is just testing the waters, it would be nice if he ends up staying in Detroit for his final year.

Hopefully that waiver for Brundidge finally comes through. Imagine that Brundidge spin move and that Harvey jumper on the court at the same time. There’s your HL championship right there!

Key loss: G, D.J. Harvey (10.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg at ND) (8.2 ppg, 5.6 rpg at UD) Rebounds is where we will be missing him. I believe he is second on the team for rpg. Where is Rocket 🚀
And not to be confused with rocket-propelled grenade (often abbreviated RPG). 😊 If he stays put and Rocket comes home then we will be a blast! One more year...one more year...

Likewise, I'm thinking there's a 50/50 chance that DJ will be in a UDM uniform in 2022-23. In addition to the second wavier requirement, there are academic considerations. DJ is pursuing a Master of Arts in Economics; most schools limit the number of credits that can be transferred and applied toward a graduate degree.

Lol. Good luck with that. At least they got that School's name right I can't imagine that he got a lot of interest in the transfer market. He won't get much attention from the NBA, either, but I expect he will find some opportunities overseas.
