Basketball Classic is already rolling out with accepted offers today. YSU is playing and they officially announced on Twitter. I feel it would have leaked by now if we were playing in the classic (weird referring to something as “classic” in its first year).

Unfortunately, I think Oakland takes that spot in the CBI.

Just a guess, but perhaps the Titans resume is in the “maybe” pile for now. The organizers likely have a pecking order they are working, but things first need to cascade down from selections in the NCAA, then the NIT, then the warm weather CBI, then finally to the bottom feeder Basketball Classic. YSU perhaps was a BC “lock” because of their overall record, Detroit Mercy more a “bubble team” put on hold because of the sub-.500 season. It doesn’t seem Oakland is interested in playing in any tournament, what with three players already in the transfer portal. Northern Kentucky reportedly is not interested. Maybe Purdue Fort Wayne gets a bid, they have a better resume than the Titans. You would think the CBI or BC would want to limit multiple teams from the same conference as much as possible.

Fort Wayne seems pretty confident they'll be in the Classic, but no formal word yet. This thread udtitanbasketball.freeforums.net/post/31669/thread keeps a list of confirmed invites I know of. I do think the being over .500 is a big deal. Note that 2 CBI teams, VMI and UNC-Ashville, are under .500 against D-1 but over .500 overall. I think we should have beaten up Rochester this week if we really wanted a bid to one of these lesser tournaments.

Maybe we can get invited to the Vegas 8? I’ve always been jealous of Oakland’s trip to the little little little dance.

Just a guess, but wouldn’t be surprised if there is an NCAA rule that doesn’t allow schools to schedule/play additional regular season games once exiting a league tournament.

Indeed you are correct. According to the NCAA D-1 Manual, this is a new rule, adopted last September.

If the CBI Tournament takes Purdue Ft Wayne this year, who knows, maybe we still have a chance to get the BC bid even if where under.500. I recall some football programs going to a bowl game under .500 in years past. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCAA waived bowl eligibility requirements for the 2020–21 bowl season, intended to allow as many student-athletes as possible the opportunity to participate in bowl games that year.

Senior guard Antoine Davis is No. 3 in the nation in scoring, doesn't that account for getting an opportunity to play in the post season? Unfortunately, it appears that there will be no post season opportunity for Davis and company. I hope that being under .500 isn't the case since the Titans need to have more practice going into next year since the team is relatively young.

Just trying to be kind to the returning players. Some have been through not having a post season for sometime now. 🤩

Rescheduling some (or all) of those canceled home games would have probably put us in a better position for a post season invite. I don't think it is unreasonable to think that we would have gone at least 4-1 in those games, which certainly puts the win/loss record in a better light. I also think we should have played that game against Rochester. I know it would have meant playing back to back days, but that's still a game we should easily win.
Still surprises me that several college coaches and the conference administration was satisfied with not making up conference games. And the idea that some coaches were in favor of not rescheduling games because they were afraid they might lose goes against everything I learned from pretty much every coach I ever had. Different times, I guess.

Blame the AD for not pushing the agenda to reschedule games. Another reason to replaceMr. Vowels.

Blame the AD for not pushing the agenda to reschedule games. Another reason to replaceMr. Vowels. I'm blaming everyone for this, but I am starting with the conference commissioner. You don't leave that decision up to the schools.
