I propose that we play the CBI. I think we have enough talent coming back to justify paying for it. Gets them some extra practice time and games. The kids played physical basketball this year (I don’t think Isiani played 4 consecutive minutes all season without taking a charge or getting smacked in the face with an elbow or the basketball) and we owe it to them. I assume CBI might take us just to have cameras on Antoine.

And it will give us one final opportunity to finish the season with a winning record.

FWIW, here’s a bit about the CBI:
PRINCETON, NJ – The 14th College Basketball Invitational will take place March 19-23 at the Ocean Center.
The 2022 CBI will be a single-elimination, fully-bracketed men’s basketball postseason tournament featuring 16 teams from across the country competing for a championship in Florida. The field will consist of teams not selected for the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to last year, the CBI was held on campus sites with the championship decided in a best-of-three series. After holding last year’s CBI in Daytona Beach and receiving high praise for the format and venue, it was decided to return to the Ocean Center this March.
“The response we received before, during, and after last year’s CBI was overwhelming, especially when you consider the circumstances the country faced at the time,” says Gazelle Group president Rick Giles. “Because of that, we felt a return to Daytona Beach was warranted. With the location of the hotel being on the beach and the arena being across the street from the hotel, it really is the perfect setting for what we hope will be another exciting CBI.”

My understanding is that there will be 148 teams playing in postseason tournaments:
68 in the NCAA tournament 32 in the National Invitational 16 in the College Basketball Invitational 32 in the Basketball Classic
Just a guess on the pecking order and how things might work this year, if the Titans are to get an invite to keep playing it will more likely be the Basketball Classic played on campus sites.
Last year there the CBI had an eight-team field and a couple of the schools had sub-.500 records. The College Invitational Tournament (CIT) was canceled last year and this year has morphed into “The Basketball Classic.”

One good thing about the Basketball Classic is that all of the games will air on ESPN+. Also, I like their website: thebasketballclassic.com/

I wonder if the Titans shouldn't have scheduled Rochester or someone this week, just to square the record at .500.

If the hope or plan is to play in a post season tournament, scheduling a game his week is a smart move to avoid a 10 to 14 day layoff..Squaring the record @ .500 is a bonus..

Don't put the cart before the horse. First, you have to get invited. A .500 or better team looks a lot better than a sub-.500 team. It's true that both the CBI and CIT were taking sub-.500 teams in the last couple years before the pandemic, mainly on the basis of willingness to pay, but both tournaments still would prefer better to lesser teams, and both have made changes that make entry fees less important. The former CIT now plans to split all revenues, so they care even more about getting teams that either draw fans at home or are decent road draws (where Antoine gets us some marketability). The CBI is playing everything in Florida, at one location, so fan draw matters there, too.
Anyway, I look forward to the day when we're back to discussing our NCAA or at least NIT seedings rather than wondering how to finagle a bid to the CBI.

I wonder if the Titans shouldn't have scheduled Rochester or someone this week, just to square the record at .500. I understand that it would be nice to be at least .500, but I think playing such a game post conference tournament (if that is even allowed) would look weak. I think there are a lot of behind the doors conversations that go on with the bottom tier tournaments, guessing UDM might already know if it is under any consideration for a bid. A win against an NAIA school probably wouldn’t influence a decision to be invited.

Psychologically, that's a big breakpoint.

The CBI selects 16 teams that are not selected for the NCAA Tournament or the National Invitation Tournament(NIT), and who are willing to pay a $50,000 entry fee to participate. If we bring in 25 people that bring in $2k per person that's $50,000. I would make it real by being the first commitment!

I think the new Basketball Classic tournament is a much less expensive venture, that’s where I’d expect to see the Titans play if anywhere. “All gate receipts will be collected by the Basketball Classic, enabling a wider range of schools to participate. Schools can host Classic games without the responsibility of an additional financial commitment."
