When Josh Pastner left Memphis for Georgia Tech, the rumors started that Tubby Smith was a candidate for the Memphis job. Nothing official from either side yet. Be advised that if Tubby Smith goes to Memphis, I'm starting a Memphis thread. :-)

Isn't the perfect successor to Tubby to be found in Chris Beard? Oh, wait, he just took the job at UNLV? No, he wouldn't! $1 million buyout if he leaves UNLV.

Isn't the perfect successor to Tubby to be found in Chris Beard? Oh, wait, he just took the job at UNLV? No, he wouldn't! $1 million buyout if he leaves UNLV. There are already stories about Beard having been on campus last night on a secret visit. He is reportedly going to have a formal interview soon. The funny things is, some Texas Tech fans are bashing Coach Smith for "not keeping his word" and "not leaving people who gave him a shot to go to greener pastures", but they are so very excited about the possibility of taking Beard from UNLV.

Looks to be a done deal for Chris Beard to go to Texas Tech. Tech will pay his million dollar buy out, and he'll likely receive a hefty raise over the $900,000 yearly salary he got from the Rebels. Tech is receiving $900,000 in the form of a buyout for Coach Smith going to Memphis. This is essentially Beard's third job in two weeks. Ironically, back in 2012 he agreed to be the head coach at Lamar State College - Port Arthur and backed out a few days later. m.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/article/Newly-hired-Seahawks-basketball-coach-changes-mind-3554145.php

What idiot was pushing that idea?

Lots of movement on the Texas Tech roster since the coaching change. Jordan Jackson and Roykas Ulvydas transferred from Tech, and 2016 recruit Keon Clergot asked for and received his release. The Red Raiders have added two JUCO guards (one expected to have an immediate impact) and a grad transfer front court player from Arkansas State. The Red Raiders are still active in the transfer market.

I'm going to re-purpose this thread as a general Big 12 thread. There is interesting news in the Big 12 and I'm also not going to be so focused on Texas Tech in the coming season, since Coach Smith went to Memphis.

It's gotten overlooked on the national level by the strong early classes brought in by programs like Auburn and Washington, but TCU coach Jamie Dixon is putting in some serious work on the recruiting front. He made a couple of very smart hires on his staff, including a guy who is very well connected in the Houston area.
Today, TCU got a commitment from Kevin Samuel, a 6-10 center from Houston in the class of 2017. Samuel is a legit four star, top 100 player, ranked #72 in the class by Scout. He joins two other players that TCU has signed for the class of 2017: RJ Nembhard, a four star shooting guard from Keller, Texas ranked #66 in the class by Rivals, and Kouat Noi, a three star forward from Sudan, who plays his high school ball at Monteverde Academy in Florida.
Shortly after arriving at TCU, Dixon got a commitment from Jaylen Fisher, a four star/top 100 player in the class of 2016, who had originally committed to UNLV.
In the class of 2018, TCU already has a commitment from Kendric Davis, a point guard from Sam Houston High in Houston. Davis is currently ranked a four star player by Rivals.
Not sure if Dixon is using the Jedi Mind Trick or the Vulcan Mind Meld, but he is somehow bringing in top talent to TCU.
