Another interesting note for Valpo: @garyparrishcbs Worth noting: Valpo’s Alec Peters can likely graduate this summer and transfer, sources told @cbssports. Averaged 18.4 ppg and 8.5 rpg.

Matt Lottich promoted to head coach. Lottich has been an assistant at Valpo for 3 years, after spending several years playing overseas and D League. He played his college ball at Stanford.
Promote from within. I'm sure they hope this will be "the Valpo Way," but we shall see.

Odd news that David Skaara will transfer from Valpo. This seems odd. He was a valuable rotation player at Valpo and looked to have a key role next year as a junior. After Drew's departure Valpo's beat reporter, Paul Oren, mentioned talking to Skaara, Shane Hammink, and Tevonn Walker and said that all 3 planned to be back (remember, too, that Valpo simply promoted a Drew assistant). Definitely a big blow to Valpo.
The Horizon league is just falling apart right now. Let's hope the Titans don't lose key players/recruits when the new coach is announced.

Michigan native Bakari Evelyn winds up at Valpo after transferring from Nebraska. I thought Nebraska was a stretch for him. He might have better luck at Valpo, but HL programs weren't recruiting him when he was in high school.
Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 2h2 hours ago Valparaiso has landed Nebraska transfer Bakari Evelyn, source told ESPN.

Valpo takes a hit today when Keith Carter's appeal of his denial for a 5th year of eligibility is denied.
With Milwaukee's Jordan Johnson transferring and Oakland's Kay Felder leaving early for the NBA, Carter would have been, hands down, the best returning point guard in the conference, and Valpo a likely choice to win the league again. Here, it's not only that they won't have a pre-season all-conference selection at point guard, but that they don't have a real obvious replacement. Juniors Tevonn Walker, Michael Joseph and Lexus Williams, are all listed as point guards, but the first two haven't played there much in college. Joseph, indeed, hasn't played much at all in two years at Valpo. He's a good bench player, but not really a starter. Walker is a solid starter, but would be better at the #2. Williams was an all-freshman player way back in 2014, but he was an injury red-shirt in 2015 and sat on the bench most of last year. The ACL injury seems to have slowed him a step, but I also think he was probably overrated as a freshman in the first place--if you go back and look hard at his numbers, they weren't really that good--and nor was Valpo that year. The all-freshman team that year included Alec Peters and Kay Felder, but the quality fell off sharply after that, with Detroit's Jarod Williams and Milwaukee's Pat Birt joining Williams on the team. Valpo has a good freshman point guard coming in in Micah Bradford, but I don't see him as a guy like Ray McCallum or Kay Felder, who can step in at a high level of play right away. I think at best his production would be more along the lines of Josh McFolley last year for Detroit, and while that's good for a freshman, it's not usually up to snuff for a team seeking a title.
Anyway, it seems a shame, because Carter had a very strong case. He played 39 minutes in 3 games as a freshman for St. Louis in the fall of 2012. He was injured for several games, came back, played in 1 game, transferred. The coach that recruited him (Majerus) died. There's no evidence of any sort of shenanigans, or that his transfer was in any way illegit. He's not trying to sneak a year as a grad transfer. He actually sat out half his sophomore year as a mid-season transfer (missed freshman spring/soph fall), so not counting that 39 minutes he's played just 5 semesters of college ball. There's reason to believe he could have gotten a medical redshirt had he not transferred. This would only be his 5th year since enrolling, so he's in compliance with the 5 year rule. I guess the thinking is something like this: if he'd been a medical redshirt as a freshman, he still would have had to sit a year, and then he would only have 3 years of eligiblity to comply with the 5 year rule. Still, tough break.
