I'm not a fan of the current style of play on the NBA, but I wouldn't call it a bush league, even compared to the NFL. Yeah, I think salaries are going crazy in the NBA and that often the player effort is lacking, but the same thing has been truly said about MLB for a long time. I believe that viewership is declining in the NBA, but they're still making huge money in tv contracts.
The NBA and the NFL both make a ton of money. Owners make big money, players make big money, all while the fans cost keep rising. A big difference between the NBA and the NFL is that players fare much better in the NBA, with guaranteed contracts, a stronger union, better pension benefits, and greater player recognition that helps with branding and endorsement opportunities. If I had a kid who was going to be a pro at some sport, I'd certainly push him into basketball rather than football.

The fact that Stanford and Cal are even considering sending their athletes to North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Central New York, Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Indiana every other weekend to compete, and that the existing ACC schools would consider sending their athletes clear across country to play games 2 or 3 time zones away that won't start until 10 p.m. ET, to have flights home in which they won't arrive until 5 or 6 in the morning, illustrates how screwed up big-time college football is these days. Then, the ADs at Stanford, Cal and the ACC would stand there with a straight face and lie by telling their boosters and athletes it's great for their schools.

Looks like San Diego State dodged a bullet when their deal to join the PAC12 fell through.

This will be interesting for Cal, given that the state of California has banned state institutions from funding travel to Texas, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, Florida, and South Carolina.

Probably time for the University of California to follow suit and move out of Berkley and relocate in San Antonio or Gulf Coast

Great point, I forgot about the travel ban. I think the state of California should extend the ban to incoming teams from those states. It's kind of like back to the future when Mississippi State wasn't allowed to play teams that were intergraded, so they had to do something to avoid the ban to play Loyola (I think).

What they did was sneak out of Mississippi in the dark of night!

Back in the 60's Mississippi State never went to the NCAA because of some state policy that they couldn't play teams with black players. I think one year they got a bid to the NCAA and had a first-round game in Lansing against Loyola who played 4 or 5 black players. Somebody in Mississippi filed an injunction to keep them from playing the game and somehow they got on the plane to Michigan before they could be serviced and played the game.

ACC approves adding Cal, Stanford and SMU. The TV revenue splits are interesting. SMU gets no TV revenue, but gets back in a power conference. Link to ESPN news article

So now Syracuse can host these teams at the Dome instead of St John’s, Villanova and Georgetown in hoops. I will only closely follow Horizon, Ivy, MAAC and MAC from this point on.

I used to think it was weird that Maryland vs Penn State was a Big Ten game. Now Oregon vs Rutgers will be a Big Ten clash. Make it make $en$e.
