Amari Kelly has taken official visits to La. Tech and Duquesne this week. We don't appear to be in the running. Kelly seems like a player with a lot of upside. I am still trying to figure out what Canaan Chatman is bringing to the program as a recruiter...besides Kameron and Khalil.

If recruiting is his supposed area of strength, I hope the output doesn't stop with his kids. However, I'm reluctant to give an assistant coach too much grief over recruiting, as he may be making a contribution in other areas, such as game planning, player development, etc. Granted, we didn't see much in the way of results during last season, but maybe he's making an impact in other areas and we'll see more this coming season. That's my "glass is half full" perspective for today. :-)

That article features a prominent image of the Duquesne logo, which looks a LOT like the new Detroit M logo. Except, of course, you can actually make out the D in the Duquesne logo without it being obscured by an M. Wade commits to Duquesne.

Assuming we get them, I think that Chatman and Nelson are good recruits. But it is discouraging that in a year in which Michigan has so much talent, we've yet to get an in-state commitment. MSU and UM can't take all the good players in Michigan this year. We've got a couple more scholarships but the best Michigan players are mostly gone.

Northwestern Ohio has offered Pickerington Central F Juan Elmore - It's his first offer Though we haven't offered, Elmore is clearly on our radar, and seems (at least from what I've read down here in Central Ohio) like a good, hard-working kid. Unfortunately, most folks slot him as a D2 or marginal D1 talent. It would be great to see him have a huge senior year and become a legit, first tier mid-major recruit, although on a Pickerington team loaded with talent, it might be hard to stand out. Elmore tweets that he is visiting UofD(M) on the 20th.

Elmore tweets that he is visiting UofD(M) on the 20th. Hidden Gems ranks him the #7 small forward in central Ohio (his teammate Adrian Nelson is #2). He's apparently got interest now from West Virginia State. 270Hoops, another Ohio scouting service, puts his upside at D-II. By all local reports he's a top notch young man; I just suspect he's at best a marginal HL player. But maybe he'll have a break out year, or in any case he'd probably be a nice Preferred Walk-On (although there's a limit on how many we can add; we'll have 4 this year, all of whom are underclassmen). In addition to Nelson, who's given us a verbal commit, and Pickerington Central guard Jeremiah Francis ('19) whom we offered but who has made a verbal commitment to UNC, we've apparently been recruiting Coleton Landis, another Pickerington Central forward (class of '19) who 270Hoops rates as the best PF in his class in the greater Columbus area.

There's not a lot of information out there about Elmore, but obviously he comes from a good program. I've got the feeling that if he's only getting interest from West Virginia State then he'll probably end up committing to the Titans. He looks like a big, solid kid in his videos. www.maxpreps.com/athlete/juan-elmore/9B9bqcZXEeS-8KA2nzwbTA/videos.htm

Why would a recruit choose Duquesne over Detroit? Well, obviously, it's a very personal decision, and the coach is a huge factor. But Duquesne doesn't draw big crowds; it's facilities aren't that great; it's not in the coolest part of Pittsburgh. The one objective advantage it has that sticks out is that it plays in the A10. All these guys Duquesne is getting, the A10 is usually their "highest" offer. I have to think it matters, and it's a reason why we should try to move up in conference.

Per Twitter
Wayne Memorial 2018 guard Rashad Williams will announce his commitment October 19 at 2:30 p.m., in the school's library.
This would be a great and underrated addition to our recruiting class if we can get him. Personally, this is my first choice for a realistic guard addition in the class of 2018

As Scout pointed out, Rashad Williams is going to announce his college decision. Three years ago, as noted in the quote above, he was speaking positively about U of D. Be nice if those first positive signs ended with a verbal commitment.
