Wrapping up a few loose ends while the remaining 100 or so fans await any news at all from Calihan Hall (Roster??/ Coaching Staff??) Per verbal commit, F Jesse Barnes has received an offer from Montana State. Barnes, who was offered by BA, will attend the University of Victoria, in British Columbia Andre Allen, a JUCO that I really liked and was hoping might be able to reclassify from the class of 2019 to 2018 and join the Titans, committed to Buffalo as part of the class of 2019

You would think they would want to keep the dwindling fan base engaged...NOT! Maybe the new director of marketing and promotions will help with these things.

Two players the Titans have scouted but not offered committed today: guard Traveon Maddox to Oakland and guard Gary Solomon to Long Island. Steve Bell notes that this reflects the depth in Michigan's 2018 class, as several recent years both would have been top 10 players in Michigan. Losing these two isn't a big deal--we hadn't offered either, as noted--but it emphasizes that we need a good class in a year in which Michigan has a lot of depth. And most of the top 10 players have already committed. Solomon announced that he has decommitted from LIU Brooklyn & will instead do a post-grad year.

Reported by Verbal Commits and elsewhere that Titans have offered 2018 6-6 Ypsilanti Lincoln SF Tray Jackson. Appears to be first offer. Usually, when the Titans identify and offer guys early, they turn out to be damn good and we lose them to high majors, e.g. Deyonta Davis, AJ Turner, Yante Maten, and many others. We've had a pretty good eye for talent. It appears that Jackson put on a strong performance at the Titans' Elite Camp this summer: "Tray Jackson 6-6 So Ypsilanti Lincoln: The surprise breakout prospect. He has the body, athleticism and shooting range of an older player. I coached 40 15U AAU games in the spring and rarely saw a member of the 2018 class who had Jackson’s combination of size and shot. Missed a dunk attempt but on another showed good hands and coordination to bring it in and put it down. You’d like to see him discover a post game and consistently embrace the dirty forward work, though his length provides a defensive presence." s180024.instanturl.net/bankhoopsnew/2015/06/26/calihan-call-outs-strong-performances-at-u-d-elite-camp/Sam, know anything about this kid? Tray is a kid who is a completely different player than he was as a freshman. He was uncoordinated and raw last season, and was overshadowed on a Lincoln Railsplitter team that had Ty Groce (headed to Northeastern) and Devin Haygood (currently at YSU). Looks like he started catching up with his body over the summer, because he is more polished, more athletic, and having a greater impact. I don't want to claim all the credit here, but after I attended the Lincoln vs Milan game at the start of this season, I emailed Coach Jay and told him that Tray was worth scouting. I don't know if he was on the Titan radar before that. He's definitely a player worth keeping tabs on. Good point about the Titan eye for talent. You can add Mike Edwards to that list, who we offered the summer after he averaged only five points per game as a high school junior. Good eye for talent, indeed. So, whatever happened to Tray Jackson, who spent a season and a half at my alma mater? Well, he transferred over to Detroit Western and played there before taking a prep year at Sunrise Academy in Kansas, moving to the class of 2019. Today he committed to Minnesota. Seeing him as a freshmen, I didn't think he end up being a Big Ten recruit. Good for him.

So, an update on the Tray Jackson recruitment:About six weeks after verbally committing to Minnesota with a social media post that said he was "110% committed", Tray de-committed from the Gophers this evening. A few hours later he announced his commitment to the University of Missouri. Life comes at you fast...

This de-commitment was especially egregious, since he de-committed from Minnesota and two hours later committed to Missouri. Up until yesterday afternoon, there was no indication that he was anything but solid for Minnesota. And of course, Mizzou is facing criticism for possibly continuing to recruit a player who had verbally committed elsewhere. That happens in college basketball, but not as openly as it does in football.

Rashad Williams, who we offered (and I really liked), had a nice debut for Cleveland State leading the team in scoring tonight with 15 points 1 steal and 1 assist while shooting 5-7 from 3.

Corey Hightower also played last night as Presbyterian College lost to College of Charleston 85-73. Hightower had 6 pts, 6 rebounds, 2-2 FT's, and fouled out in 26 minutes of action.

Bakari Evelyn, a 6'2" guard from Valpo is transferring as a grad transfer. He went to Hillcrest Academy and Southfield Christian. He played in all 32 games for Valpo and averaged 28 minutes per game. 8.4 PPG. A quote from Evelyn

Another grad transfer, 6'7" forward, Shakur Juiston from UNLV. Averaged 10.8 points and 8.8 boards this season. His stats may keep him above a mid major level team.

Steve Schwanda has posted what is the first ranking of Michigan's class of '18 that I think I've seen (http://www.alleyesonuhoops.com/2018-top-ten.html), as of September 4. Remember, these are kids who have yet to play a high school game. 1) Brandon Johns East Lansing 6'7 2) David DeJulius Detroit Edison 5'11 3) Davion Williams Belleville 6'1 4) Shayne Scruggs Lansing 6'0 5) Pierre Mitchell Detroit Loyola 5'10 6) Jake Lee Petosky 6'4 7) Grant Nabors Wyoming Park 6'2 8) Lamar Norman Godwin Heights 6'0 9) Elliot Bergsma East Grand Rapids 6'5 10) D'Avery Moore East Kentwood 6'4 Looking at this, I feel like Ace Ventura the first time he saw the Miami Dolphins team picture with Ray Finkel in it... Early projections showed a Shayne Scruggs high on the list, from Lansing. I've never heard of Scruggs so a quick Google search turned up that he's playing at a prep school in Toronto and ended up 6'7". I've never seen him play but I'm ready to extend an offer at this point. 😉 Scruggs reclassified to 2019, moved to a prep school in Charlotte, and gave a verbal commitment today to North Carolina A&T.

Well done. Way to tie out each and every loose end!
I'm not sure what our future holds after missing out on Scruggs. 🙂
