Now its Titan Mike getting the troops excited with his "I have a secret" message about Ray's future. Since Moose's prophecy didn't pan out, here are a few more:
1. Ray moves upstairs as assistant athletic director.
2. Ray moves to NBA as super scout.
3. Ray remains.
What do you think of all this, Sam?

Part of me feels like if a change was going to be made, it would have happened by now. I can't see Mr. V leaving Coach Ray hanging for weeks like this, if a change was going to take place. I do wish people would stop posting those non-news items and just wait until they have something concrete to say or just wait until what they are hearing is announced officially. I think it's quite possible that the athletic department is just going about business as usual. It could be they have given a lot less thought to making a change than fans on a message board. I'm fine with him staying. If he leaves, I just hope they don't mess up the hire.

Looks like Tommy Amaker is happy at Harvard. Can't say that I blame him.
Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 38m38 minutes ago Several schools — Stanford, Vandy and Georgia Tech — all reached out to Harvard’s Tommy Amaker, sources told ESPN. Amaker did not bite.

If Harvard is committed to athletic excellence -- and it now appears they are -- they can match any school in the country in resources. With the academic standards and lack of athletic scholarships, there will be some disadvantage (although remember, every kid gets if free with a family income below about $70K). Unlike a guy like Bryce Drew, Amaker has had "big time" jobs, and didn't do so well. Now he's building a monster at Harvard in a league which is getting a lot better fast. For him, staying put at America's premiere academic institution, with huge resources it is starting to devote to sports, is probably a good deal. Amaker has about a $700K base at Harvard, probably a bit more. While he probably won't quite make elite money there, he'll be pretty high up the ranks of college coaches.

UNLV is trying to move quickly from the Chris Beard disaster. Menzies has been a very solid coach at NM State. Not a "home run hire" but he actually has more of a resume than Beard.
Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 10m10 minutes ago UNLV and New Mexico State coach Marvin Menzies have verbally agreed to deal, source told ESPN.

Saw this quote from Jon Rothstein: "Boston College Eagles 's ACC record since firing Al Skinner is 28-76. No other words are needed."
As I have mentioned here before, Al Skinner has been a favorite of mine over the years. I remembered him as a player for the Pistons, and rooted for him as a coach at Rhode Island and BC. I never thought he should have been fired at BC, and the two hires they have made since dumping him have been a disaster.
Al got back to coaching last season, taking over Kennesaw State. They went 11-20 on the year, but an encouraging 7-7 in conference. That was their first non-losing conference season in forever. Skinner brought in six freshman in the class of 2016, including two 6-10 players. The first and third leading scorers from last season's team return in 2016-17, along with another starter, and two or three other players who saw significant time. Could be a good season for Kennesaw State.
Boston College is expected to struggle once again, hoping to improve upon last season's 0-18 ACC record.

We will hope for better from Bacari Amen. I seriously don't think I could take it if the Titans had a stretch like Boston College is having. I think BA will do a good job, however.

Chris Jans was hired this week at New Mexico State--a pretty good job, and one set up for immediate success--the Aggies return 4 starters from a 28-6 team. Jans, recall, was Greg Marshall's assistant at Wichita State, highly regarded. Bowling Green hired him in 2014 after losing 20 games in 2013-14 and having 5 consecutive seasons at or below .500. He got them to 21-12 (including a contested 64-63 win at Detroit) and the second round of the CIT in his first season. It was their most wins in over a decade. But then he was fired after the season for being drunk in public and harassing a woman at a bar. Marshall took him back in.
I think if he can keep himself clean he is going to be very successful. And who knows, maybe New Mexico State will join the Horizon.

Word is that Milwaukee coach Lavall Jordan is a leading candidate for the top job at Butler. I think he's done a pretty decent job at Milwaukee, and certainly he's got the years as a Michigan assistant, but really--one 11-24 season with a last place finish hardly seems like the resume that would catch Barry Collier's eye.

I don't think that he will get the job, but I can see why he is a candidate. I'm sure the fact that he played for Butler when the current AD was head coach, and that he also coached under Thad Matta, Brad Stevens, are playing in his favor. I think he'll stay at Milwaukee when Butler goes in a different direction, and I still think he is going to do well with the Panthers. Matta leaving Ohio State surprised me, particularly since it seems he was fired and did not resign for health reasons, as I originally thought.
