We are in this brave new world where better players at mid majors will get recruited away by larger schools. I get not wanting the kids being significantly restrained in where they decide to go, BUT college hoops is such big business now (and based on the 500+ record busting number of kids in the transfer pool) and we now have a monster of a free agent system on our hands.
Perhaps after a few years it will shake itself out and settle down a bit. But in the meanwhile, it does seem early indications are the bigger schools will be poaching from everyone else.

It's certainly uncharted territory compared to years past. The transfer scene used to be a lot different. Guys who struggled at one level looked to drop down a level to a better fit. Players who had behavioral or other off the court issues at one school transferred to a school within that same level or below. Mid major transfers up to high major were relatively rare, and you didn't see so much poaching committed by high major coaches. It's not hard to see why mid major coaches age so fast and stress so much. They have more stress than high major coaches for a fraction of the money.

I am sure Mr. Ash is the one doing the contacting.

Did you see any of the UDJ games? Only on-line and in some "hi light" videos. I do know he is a top 10 class of 2019 Michigan player (& the top post prospect) who was committed to an A-10 team and may now go even higher. He's a big (6'10" 230#) man (which we need) and the fact that he's from U of D Jesuit could serve to open up a pipeline between the two of us. I also prefer recruiting mostly high school kids (which he obviously is) and developing them. Thomas is a rim protector and a good rebounder who can run the floor and has a nice touch. He hasn't put it all together yet, and has has a few games where he's struggled offensively and maybe even disapppeared. This could partly be put on his guards not getting the ball to him in the post, but let's face it, high school big men are almost always not finished products that need plenty of work. He has height, which you can't teach, and the potential to be a high-major player with time and development. That being said, do I realistically think he's coming here? No, but I can always hope and dream...

Remember that April 4-10 was a dead period on the recruiting calendar. During that time, no official or unoffical visits. Or in-person contacts or evaluations by coaches were permitted. From today through Sunday, there is the final regular recruiting period before NLI signing day. Then, there is another dead period from Monday to Thursday next week. Recruiting cannot begin again until Friday the 19th. Thus, for the past week, we have seen recruits speaking through Twitter and to reporters in order to communicate to coaches. Link to NCAA 2018-19 Men's Basketball Recruiting Calendar for Division 1.

I have always been a believer that the game is played with the hands and not with the top of a players head. I really liked the 6'4" G-F at UDJ I thought he was a player. Maybe I am wrong but Thomas looks to have the same problems as Blackshear but maybe Davis can make a player out of him. Gerald did improve under Davis but received very little post tutorage prior. As far as the teaching height you are correct but it's equally hard to teach motor skills.

UMass seemed like a good level for Thomas. He doesn't seem like a P6 player, and maybe not even A10, but that's where you take a shot on his size. I'd be happy to have him at UD.

I've long been consistent on here...I've seen Thomas play many times over the past 3 years. He is tall, but he doesn't play to his height on either end of the court. He isn't a strong or monster rebounded. The Nigerian kids at UDJ would swallow up boards while Jalen doesn't do that right now. His offensive game isn't really much of anything except he could turnaround and shoot over 6'6 players from Brother Rice and CC. As a sophomore he had people REALLY interested in his potential given his frame, but his development just hasn't come in my opinion. By all accounts he's a good kid and works hard, he's a UD Cub afterall! Having said all that -- we could get more for that scholarship spot and role potentially by going the Juco route. If we could get Daniel Friday to flip from Brown to UDM, NOW we would be talking...

With big guys you just never know, some just never develop, while others take huge jumps and become stars. I don't think we're in play for him anyways, but if he decided he wanted to play close to home at U of D, I can't imagine Davis would pass on him.
