Which assistant coach did rogobob speak to two weeks ago? Not sure. He just mentioned that he talked to an assistant coach who said we had three commits besides Pink. That post is somewhere in this thread.

Just wondering which assistant coach gave a completely different reply than HC Davis. Maybe it was his son?

Just wondering which assistant coach gave a completely different reply than HC Davis. Maybe it was his son? I don't know that I'd call them completely different, especially since we don't exactly have a transcript of what Coach Davis said. Coach Finch told Rogobob77 that he HOPED to get a couple of more commitments and have the class wrapped up and announced in a couple of weeks. What Coach Davis reportedly said was that it might not be until August that everything is wrapped up. Could just be a simple case of one guy being more optimistic than the other about getting everything resolved sooner. Both comments give the impression that there is still work to be done. Believe me, I'd love for everything to be wrapped up and official and know that the focus of recruiting was now on 2020 and beyond. Feels like for the second year in a row we're in catch up mode, but if what Coach Finch told Rogo is accurate and we've got a couple of others (Miller?) that we're expecting to land, it could be a pretty good class. I have faith in the Coach's ability to spot and develop talent. I'm trying to use that faith to balance my impatience.

It could also be that we had some recruits with verbal agreements but they got scared off by the post season ban and now our coaching staff is struggling to convince them to stick with us and/or the staff is left scraping the bottom of the recruitment barrel.

A lot of colleges still have not yet announced their recruits. In the HL, UIC, Oakland, IUPUI, NKU and us have not announced anything. The other 5 schools have announced some or all of their signings. In this new era of recruiting with grad transfers, immediate eligibility for more transfers, the new NBA draft rules, and social media, I think that different coaches will disclose their recruits at different times.

What do you mean by the pronoun "It?" Yesterday was exactly 2 weeks from the night of the event at which rogobob spoke to the asst. coach. Hoping for something to occur in about two weeks is different than saying we will have an announcement in two weeks. And that statement had to be balanced against what Davis himself told another attendee at the same event. Therefore, I was not expecting any announcements yesterday. I'm pretty confident that most of the open roster slots have already been filled. It looks like Davis is recruiting to fill specific needs; especially big rebounders who can score and block shots. Davis faced a similar situation at Texas Southern. His team went 16-2 in the regular season and let the SWAC know who would be boss in the post season once their eligibility was restored.

“It” would be the difference in comments between Davis and Finch.
I’m generally confident that most of the roster spots have been filled as well, although less confident we got the quality of the recruiting class I was expecting considering I thought people might really want to play with AD. I guess I was expecting at least two grad transfers that were three star or better out of HS and are proven D1 players. I suppose that’s still a possibility so we will see. I’m worried we lost a recruit or two because of the ban but I have nothing to back this up, it’s just reasonable to think a grad transfer would hear of the ban and back out of an agreement or take us off his list.

Credibility check:
Davis is the Head Coach.
Finch is the Video Coordinator.

I know we're all anxious to hear some official recruiting news, but let's not make too much out of a couple of comments made during the course of a social interaction with supporters. Both comments basically boil down to "we are working on the class and will have official news in the future". Sounds like both Finch and Davis were giving their opinion on how they saw things at the time, but I doubt either of them expected those comments to be taken as gospel.
This is actually a prime example of why coaches don't like to talk about recruiting until everything is official. There are just too many variables and too many things out of their control for them to be sure about anyone until the Is are dotted and the Ts are crossed. (And the signatures are on the NLI. And the academic people have signed off. And the NCAA clearinghouse has approved. Etc., etc.)
As someone said earlier, lots of programs have yet to officially announce their classes. And that goes for high majors and everyone else. I've read that Oregon has six spots left to officially fill. EMU has a bunch of reported verbal commits and some signed NLIs, but have made no official announcement on the class. Feels like we're in a new normal for recruiting, where many programs will be filling rosters for the upcoming season well into the summer.

Rose was a 3-star recruit out of high school according to verbalcommits.
So, in 2 weeks and 1 day from the event, we learn that we have 1 commit from a 3* HS player and a really good chance that we got a second commit earlier this week from a player who put up several double-doubles last season at Louisiana-Lafayette. This sounds like "about two weeks" for these commitments. I agree with sam and think that we have to adjust our mindsets to a new normal in college recruiting.

Would be cool if Derrick Rose showed up at Calihan for a game.
