Coach also mentioned that the HL proposed that the RMU games this weekend be played in the Colonials gym. Perhaps switching to road games would have been a way for the Titans to get some extra points in the secret formula that determines seeding for the conference tournament. In any event, Davis didn’t seem cool to that idea, and the games will be in Calihan as originally scheduled.

I wonder if he was told if we win 2 at RMU we are a top 4 seed. But coach turned it down, hoping other outcomes would happen? Like either NKU or Oakland losing both games?

On a pre or post-game radio interview this weekend, Coach said the request was to consider flipping with Oakland — instead of OU playing RMU on the road and UDM playing the Colonials here, it would be the other way around. Presumably that would have improved our SOS and balanced the home/road schedule more, but hard to speculate how that would have all played out.

Some highlights from yesterday... - Antoine joined the meeting at the beginning to answer a few questions before practice. He seemed to appreciate the opportunity. He said the team is confident that they can beat RMU after last weekend, they just have to execute. Asked about his turnaround this season, he said the early slump was the worst stretch he’s had since high school, maybe middle school. - Coach Davis said once again how much he likes this meeting format and that he’d like to bring other players in, that it would be good for them to hear from the fans. (Maybe next week after two big wins!) - The 2nd half of the last game was the best man to man defense stretch since he got here. He thinks that RMU is very well coached, and their hard and quick cuts were very effective against our zone - The team is healthy other than a few nagging injuries that some have been playing through - He plans to have little more fun and loose atmosphere for postseason practices, mentioning a shooting contest the other day where the team chose sides - Bul Kuol is one of the hardest workers he’s ever had, never wanting a day off and maybe sometimes working too hard. He is really appreciative of the chance to contribute to a winning program. In general, Coach likes this team’s attitude a lot. He sometimes found it tough to get guys in the gym often enough his first two years, now he can’t get them out - He would like Noah to be a little quicker and more ready to score on catch and shoot opportunities - The team is working on and improving their screening for shooters. Coach said screening is sort of a lost art, and that his Indiana teams were very good at it - Coach said that Brad Calipari has had a great attitude with his reduced role this year. He predicts that Brad will become a great coach, and that he has contributed excellent, detailed scouting reports all year

Some highlights from this morning... - Asked about Antoine’s big game, Coach said he’s having fun and that Fraser has been a big help taking away some of the point guard pressure - He prefers older guys vs high school recruits to fill recruiting priorities for next year (point guard, post player, big shooting wing), as the team is ready to compete at a high level with just a few new players who can play immediately. The team’s recent success and the play of this year’s transfers should be a big help in recruiting - NKU’s matchup zone hurt Antoine last year, but having Bul, Noah and Matt will help. The team has been working more and more on their zone offense. On a side note, they hadn’t done much zone offense work prior to the first two unscheduled OU games, as there weren’t any zone-heavy teams scheduled until later - Compliance Director Steve Corder joined the call and gave information on the transfer portal. Next year, teams can go beyond the scholarship limit by the number of of seniors that stay for another year. Steve said he would answer questions sent to him - Noah joined the call at the end and took several questions and seemed to enjoy it. He’s one of 9 siblings and has great family support; he has always been a guard, even after growing from a 6’2” sophomore to a 6’11” senior; he’s not sure what his hairstyle will be tomorrow; Antoine is “insanely good”; his favorite player is Kevin Durant; he is “real happy” that Coach said he will be a guard always next year - Coach Davis said these meetings are good for him, he hasn’t smiled so much since he’s been here - Thanks to PJ Gradowski, who does a great job running the show

I took up Steve Corder’s invitation to contact him with followup questions to ask about the rules governing current grad transfers who might want to transfer again after the current season. The following is his explanation on what is allowed under current guidelines.
If a grad transfer has already transferred once during their career, then they cannot use the one-time transfer exception and would have to sit a year. However, there is legislation that would allow immediate eligibility in cases where academic program, scholarship and participation opportunity, and reason for transfer come into play. An institution can also file a legislative relief waiver for individuals who transfer for extemporaneous circumstances outside their control that fit under the NCAA's transfer directive. In addition, there may be further legislative relief coming depending on how the pandemic progresses.

Some highlights from this morning... - The team resumed practice briefly after accepting a CBI bid, but 4 players chose to opt out. Coach Davis was very disappointed - Coach is confident that we will add 4-5 Power 5 players in the next few weeks after official announcements are allowed. He said a couple of times that we’ll all be excited when we see which new players are coming in - We will likely lose at least 4 players to the transfer portal. There are currently 550 names in the portal, with quite a few more expected as teams get eliminated - Having Coach Montgomery around full time is seen as a big plus - Coach made it clear that he’s not going anywhere. Don’t expect to see him anywhere without his Titan gear, and he expects his players to share his sense of pride in the program and its history. His vision is for us to be a Big East team. That will happen as we keep upgrading the talent, with winning bringing in crowds, recruits and respect - He wants to continue these meetings in the off-season, maybe bi-weekly, and welcomes our questions and suggestions. He’d like to have us come watch some of the workouts when things open up - Expect more preseason home games this year. He hopes to have fairly regular meetings with UM and MSU, hopefully with Calihan in the mix occasionally - Antoine is looking to get stronger next year and will be hitting the weight room 4 times a week

We still had 10 players left.

Agreed..Why did we take a pass when there were 10 players available? .who made the final decision to not play? Was it a money issue? Continuing the season could have been a big plus for the team and for recruiting....
