Tankersley will probably be playing at one of the southern Big 12 schools next season. I'm almost certain he wont be at UDM next season. That is going to suck. I like a Mark alot.

We have good coaches who are good at coaching our players up. That's not the problem. Not saying I disagree... but the proof of this exists where, exactly? I'm not looking to get into a list of players who got better vs. a list of players who didnt improve or anything. I assume we have some good coaches and I'm hoping it isn't just wishful thinking on my part. I would never definitively state it as you have though. When your team is the worst in America in year 6, I dont think anyone can definitively state your doing a good job in any area. Just feels like common sense. 🙂 In a sense, I kind of agree with both 83 and UDBaller. I think Davis is a good coach, and I think he proved that before he ever came to Six Mile and Livernois. However, current circumstances make it easy to dispute that.

We should not worry about next year. Between the portal, NIL, a potential winless season and the potential of a new coach……..every member of the team is a distinct possibility to transfer. I hope that we can retain some….but only the worthwhile ones.

Doesn't matter if he is a "good" coach or not. After six years, 0-26 is unequivocally unacceptable and whatever it is he's doing, it's clearly not working.

Davis is a good coach but TitansForever is correct. 0-26 is unacceptable. We need someone who can (dare I say) Re-Vitalize the Program. We caught lightning in a bottle once. Why can't it happen again?

When the dust settles, I predict that Tankersley would have been better off if he had stayed with the Titans.

When the dust settles, I predict that Tankersley would have been better off if he had stayed with the Titans. I think that if there was a true, accurate, honest survey of players who have transferred throughout college basketball in recent years, the majority of them would say that they made mistakes when transferring. The spotlight often shines on guys who find success at different schools, but for every Wendell Green (the Detroit kid who transferred from Eastern Kentucky and blossomed at Auburn) there are a bunch of guys who bounce around from place to place, not making an impact anywhere, and in some cases losing seasons in the process. No one does stories about them. I'm not saying that Tank won't be one of the success stories. He may have a landing spot already reserved, just waiting for an official announcement or for a late roster spot to open up. He wouldn't be the first person that happens to. However, I did think that he would have been signed with a team and participating in summer practice by now. He's not a three point shooter, which might him less attractive than some, but he's shown the ability to score well on the D1 level. He also hit 80% from the free thrown line and is a solid 6-4, 190. That's usually enough to land you at a Conference USA or American school pretty quickly. From a pure basketball ability standpoint, I wish he had stayed with the Titans. He started last year and I don't believe we've added anyone who would move him to the bench. I don't closely follow Titan players who transfer, but I wish him no ill will.

I hope that Mark lands in a good place. Unfortunately, for those teams that use analytics a lot, he doesn't even show up among the Top 50 players still available in many rankings from different analytics services. For shooting guards still available in the portal, his analytics put him somewhere from #18 to #25 depending upon the analytics service. So, his PPG and his intangibles that we saw and liked appear not to translate well to cold analytics. As among the entire portal, he ranked about #800. Stone ranked #573 in one service. Because so many players entered the transfer portal this year, many teams used analytics to create lists of players they would target. Mark's PPG and FT% seem to be offset by low defensive analytics.

I'd like to see the systems that ranked Tank #800 and Stone #573. I'm not a fan of analytics as it is used in basketball. It's a system that has encouraged players to pass up wide open layups for three pointers. It would seem as if any coach basing his roster decisions only on analytics is making a mistake. That's a comment against your post, PTC. I know you are only reporting the news.
