Assuming everyone that's eligible returns for the 2023-24 season, we have a good start on putting together a solid roster. If all 5 back court players return, there will definitely be healthy competition for playing time. Back Court: LeGreair, Stone, Tankersky, Moss, & Johnson Front Court: Liddell, Anderson, Parks, & Jones

Add in Ryan Hurst.
That should leave three more scholarships.

While I believe they all have eligibility left, I notice that Moss, Liddell, Anderson, and Parks all were recognized on Senior Day. Andwhile I would love to be wrong, I just don't see Stone coming back. And we just don't know if Johnson will ever really be able to play at a top level again. I just fear that the scenario sketched out is a dream.
Tankersley is a keeper. i don't know why Coach used him so sparingly for much of February. Every time he came into the game last night you could feel the energy level rise. I don't see him do lots of stupid stuff, but I suppose I miss a lot that the coaches may see. For my money he's a keeper. I also like Jones a lot.

I liked Tankersley and Jones from the beginning of the year. If they had played more instead of how they were handled we would probably still be playing. Just another reason I hope Davis Jr. applies for a head coaching position elsewhere and gets hired.

Be careful what you wish for, it might be MD JR at the end of the bench next year.

The optimistic me thinks that Senior Day recognized all players who are eligibile to graduate this year because, if they don't come back we don't have the chance to recognize them. Kinda like a student walking in undergrad graduation even if he's enrolled for a grad degree the next year. Stone has been sitting on the bench in his warmup suit since he lost his midyear eligibility appeal, and the optimist in me wonders why he would do that if he didn't want to come back. Plus, if he does come back, he will be the team star (with AD gone). If I recall correctly, Coach doles out starting roles according to effort in practice. Perhaps Tank turned the corner on what the coaches have been teaching in mid-season and it clicked and suddenly he was shining in practice. After all, he is a freshman. Or perhaps with Stone out and Phillips gone he had more opportunity to shine. I have no idea which of these it might be. Or it could be something else. Dunno.

Other players are not ready to step onto the floor at the end of their 4th year. đ The freshmen should have played more. That's never been more apparent than after dropping out in the conference quarters again.
As for next season, I hope we get back everyone that is eligible... but I don't think we need a "star". In fact, some of the best teams to watch don't have a star. It would be great to get Stone back... but i don't need to see him put up 18 shots per game next season.

I totally disagree! I think a good freshman is better at fitting in than a transfer who has already proven on two or three other teams that he has deficiencys. After the romance is over they will usually return to form. I hate the statement by a coach that he is getting players to fit into his system. To me that is a coach admitting he canât coach. I like it when a coach recruits the best talent possible and then designs a system that works best with the talent he has. Actually coaches em up and coaches to his teams strengths, puts the puzzle together! A guy who can make a true quick assessment of what he has and adjust accordingly. After 15 or so games their not Freshmen anymore anyway if they have a good coach. That is what the preseason and the noncon. is supposed to be foremost just to get your ass kicked or give experience to a couple guys who have been trying to prove they belong at the D1 level for four years.

Your point on Stone & Johnson is well taken.
Assuming LeGreair, Tankersky, and Moss return, we'll have a back court rotation with a reasonable amount of talent and experience. And Ryan Hurst appears to be an interesting prospect.

It will be a complete rebuild next year with only Kyle and Marcus returning. Plus Hurst. Don't know yet about Sonny Johnson Jr.
