Also, and this is obvious, but we could have used him on our roster next year. I think the deadline to enter the portal was a day or two ago. With no coach on 6 Mile, entering the portal is probably a smart move for any player who thinks he will not be left without a scholarship offer. Have to wonder how we field a team next year. Some portal players are committing. HS kids are long gone. Obviously, there’s no shortage of college students who want to play D1 basketball, but the number of them who can play at even a HL level of respectable ball is more limited than we often think. These days with all the changes, part of the game is hiring a coach who will bring a player or two with him. That’s harder when you hire an assistant coach. The portal is still open until May 1.

This was the worst signing in Mike Davis’s tenure!

This was the worst signing in Mike Davis’s tenure! No he was not. Honestly he would be a solid player but he has some attitude problems you can tell when he plays. He is more concerned about his own game instead of trying to win games. Also he has little effort on defense. If he would drop all the baggage and go out to play to win he would be a great player to have but he doesn't and it makes him look below average D1 player. I really didn't notice it until I went to the game and seat courtside. When you watch the guys off the ball in person you can tell. Also TT was the worst player and it was all his attitude. There is a reason why these types of players Davis gets. Most coaches probably don't want to deal with it. Davis would take a chance an hope he could get there attitude right because if it happen you would have a good player. It doesn't always work out.

While we might of been able to use his skills, the baggage he carried wouldnt be worth the risk.

When he was in everything stopped! Toatley and TT were difficult to Coach but at least TT did not take the rest of the team off of the floor! MD complained about players not listening to him but he was the guy who brought them in!

Davis' biggest failing as a recruiter was his dependence on fourth- and fifth-year players. While it made some sense at the beginning of his tenure, David should have been bringing in younger players as time went by. Players he could count on (not guess on) and mold into his system. And spot character and attitude deficiencies early enough to fix or move on. It all became too apparent this past season when Jank and Toatley and Tchikou all bombed (and Kuac and Mak took so long to recover and Hurst, who kept getting injured). Eddy was the only recruit who mattered at all. Thank goodness for Tobin.

I put out a Challenge to find worst game film in a titan's uniform than TT. Dude was defiantly F-ing a round because he wasn't getting his way (UDM vs State). A grown ass man acting like a kid on the court that is failing to proving a point. I know their were a number of people on this board saying he had some issues (like an accident) but I don't buy it. No evidence to back up those claims (I could be wrong). That was MD best roster he put together but TT hurt us with his attitude. That team was good and could of won some games but COVID really screwed our season along with TT not playing the way he could play.

Toatley was a big disappointment. On a team that lacked offensive playmakers, there was an opportunity for him to contribute here, but he never seemed interested in doing anything other than padding stats. He had issues at previous stops, which was likely the reason he was available in the first place.
Taurean Thompson had issues that went beyond basketball, issues that were not related just to a bad attitude, and not completely his fault. I'll leave it at that out of respect for his privacy.
Whoever the new coach is, they will likely also have to take chances on players with issues, multiple time transfers, academic risks, etc. He'll have to find underrecruited diamonds in the rough that he can develop. He'll probably have to mine the JUCO ranks. It's been a long time since the Titan program was in a position where they could pick and choose which recruits to go after. In the transfer portal/NIL era, very few coaches are sticking with the path of traditional recruiting. I'm sure that Davis didn't prefer to count on guys like Toatley, Jank, Kuac, Thompson, etc., to make up key parts of his roster. Hopefully, the new coach will have connections and relationships in place, or in development, that will allow him to overcome some of the hurdles that the Titans face when it comes to recruiting.
