That was a fun article. I enjoyed reading those comments, particularly those of Keith Gray, who I was fortunate enough to know at U-D. Good guy.

Disappointing draft so far! I can’t believe a team would rather have a guy like Emoni Bates instead of AD. I watched Eastern games last year where Bates didn’t even show up. Here is hoping AD plays in Europe and has a great career! The NBA draft decisions are often puzzling, particularly those of us who remember when they wanted players who were NBA ready/immediately able to contribute, as opposed to the "potential" picks they often make now. The only things Emoni has on AD are youth and size (even though Emoni plays smaller than he is). AD plays harder, is a better defender, is a better offensive player, is more mature, is a better teammate, and has no history of off the court trouble. That used to mean a player was in demand, but the NBA teams seem to prefer players for what they one day might be rather than what the currently are. The perception is that Emoni has a higher ceiling, but that perception is based on what he did his first couple of years of high school ball. Several guys got drafted last night based on the fact that they were good in high school. Jordan Walsh from Arkansas went #38 to Boston. He scored 7ppg last year, hitting only 28% from three. The Thompson Twins, Amen and Asur, went four and five in the draft and they didn't even play college ball, opting to play for what is basically a barnstorming team in Overtime Elite. Derick Lively was the #12 pick in the draft after averaging 5ppg for Duke. Add in that the NBA has fallen into the group think that missing a ton of threes is better than making mid range and post up shots, and a lot of talented college players went undrafted last night. Among them (besides Antoine): Adam Sanogo, 6-9, 245, who averaged 17 ppg on 60% shooting for national champ UConn. Oscar Tshiebwe, same size, also a 17 ppg scorer on 60% shooting, who also averaged 12 rebounds per game for his career. Won National College Player of the Year award at Kentucky. Adam Flagler, 6-3 guard from Baylor. 16 ppg, career 40% three point shooter. 2/1 assist-turnover ratio. D'Moi Hodge, 6-4 guard, scored 15 ppg for Missouri on 47/40/74% shooting. Also had 2.6 steals per game. Those stood out to me, but there are a lot. It's not a coincidence that all four were older players, relatively speaking; apparently the NBA thinks that players have an early expiration date. www.cbssports.com/nba/news/2023-nba-draft-snubs-oscar-tshiebwe-drew-timme-adama-sanogo-among-notable-players-not-picked/

They kinda go on what the scouting services think. There are a lot of 5 star rated players who do not play well enough to be 3’s. Would you want your son to be like AD or Emoni? But I still kinda feel sorry for Bates. I think his dad is an idiot and has completely ruined him. You are right it’s all about what you could do not what you actually do!

I just checked to see who drafted or picked up Dwayne Cohill, the YSU player who told AD at the end of the season that Davis didn't deserve the Player of the Year award. Cohill was not drafted, has no NBA undrafted contract. The last thing I can find about him is that in April he was arrested for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct when "he got rowdy with officers." Alcohol and profanity directed at the police were involved.

ESPN2 I hope he gets a fair chance to make Portland and gets a fair opportunity in Vegas. What worries me is that Portland’s first round pick is a guard and who ever made the decision to draft him will not want to be shown up. They had the third over all pick and took Scoot Henderson then they took a French guard in the second round. If I was the Portland owner and AD beat out my # 3 overall pick and my second rounder I would be looking for new Admin. people so I’m kinda dumbfounded as to why they so signed AD. Hopefully some trades coming!🫰

A player is more likely to get a real shot if he has been drafted by that club. Portland might just be looking to fill out their summer league roster, with their training camp roster already in mind. Hopefully, AD gets some real minutes and is able to put on enough of a show to get that training camp invite or to impress some other observers and explore opportunities in the future with other clubs.

Glad to see our man getting a look. Maybe the Blazers are going to move Lilliard to make room on the roster!

Maybe not anything to do with Lilliard, but the fact that the Blazers seemed to have everything all lined up and ready on draft day bodes well for AD. Obviously, he fits in with their master plan.
