With the big win, Detroit is now #360 in the NET, ahead of Coppin State (2-19) and winless Mississippi Valley. IUPUI sits at #359.

This victory is a relief and none should be celebrating. I applaud the players for their efforts. It’s clear that the coach’s comments will always weaponize the players” efforts, however, it was refreshing to hear him own this mess.

I saw Tchikou, Pink and Oaks on the bench. Have not seen Olajuwon. Is he still with us?

This is a miserable season so far, and no need to pile on or provide additional criticism after finally breaking the streak.
Rather, I would just like to point out two student-athletes who have chosen to play college basketball the way it was intended:
Tank. MD is right - there was no reason to predict this last year. He showed a few flashes early last season, fell into disfavor because he was struggling to understand the team concept we were trying to incorporate, and then ended the season on a high note as a key player in our biggest game, the season-ending loss to Youngstown. But there was no reason to say absolutely he was going to bust out this season. I liked what I saw in his game and was fairly confident of seeing a nice improvement, and expected him to be a starter. But I wasn't sure if his ball-handling and outside shooting were sufficient. He had a funny-looking outside shot and it's a little less awkward now, but he'll never be confused with AD. Yet his competitive nature and hard work have resulted in an amazing season.
At the end of last year, who would have taken Marcus over Jones? I think I would have, because Jones seems a big more of a passive role player-type, but Jones is 6-8 with a beautiful outside stroke. Jones is averaging 20 minutes and 5.5 pts per game at OU. Nice improvements from his freshman stats but certainly nowhere near what Tank has done. You could argue that Jones is on a better team, has to share his minutes with a more competitive roster, and has a different role, but still - Tank has been more impressive in his sophomore year.
Tobin. Even though he has moments when he looks like he wants to shoot but isn't quite sure what to do...by and large he looked like he belongs on the court last night. When called, he was ready. Whatever you need Coach, I'm ready. Why does a walk-on become more than a walk-on? Last season, someone on the coaching staff told me that he was nothing more than a guy who comes in for the last minute after a game's been decided. Why does he work harder than most of the scholarship players? For what reason? Did he know he'd someday get the chance he had last night? How great it must have felt to actually be part of the on-court reason we finally won a game. Good for him. And good for the Titans.

A friend of mine who was at the game did an actual headcount, said there were 220 fans in attendance. That's a sad stat. I remember years ago being frustrated by the fact that the Titans didn't draw was well as I had hoped a team with multiple winning records and some post season appearances would draw. I just looked it up, and ten years ago (Feb 9, 2014) we had an announced crowd of 3048 for a home OT win over Youngstown State. At the time I was thinking that it was a shame we couldn't get bigger crowds for a game like that. I had no expectation that we'd be playing games in front of 200 people in the not too distant future. (Note: In that game ten years ago, Juwan Howard, Jr. led the way with 24. Evan and Jarod chipped in with 19 and 14 respectively. NJ had 11 rebounds and two blocks. I think I was at that game.)

Hurst and Johnson showed the ability to contribute greatly in the limited time they've been able to play. I'm glad to see all three of them, and Ammori, still engaged and on the sidelines. I'd be happy to have all of them back next season.

I also would not call a 10 year gap a not so distant future. A lot has changed during the 10 years.

Yet his competitive nature and hard work have resulted in an amazing season. Tank is no AD, but AD is no Tank when it comes to slashing and scoring. Tank has amazing body control and handles the ball so well around the basket. His little six-foot flips and his under-the-basket shots are fun to watch. Very different than AD. And Tank is pure money at the free throw line. Which is good when you drive like he does. AD had a better percentage but I think Tank has come close if you look at this numbers in the second half of the season: 9 for 9 last night; 8 for 9 at Wright State; 8 for 11 vs. YSU; 9 for 9 vs Rob't Morris; 9 for 10 vs. NKU.....
