What is an expectable time line to hire a coach?
I would say we should of already done it unless it is a coach that is still coaching then I would say the week the team is done.

I would take them at their word, 3 weeks at the longest. The press release said "by the end of the basketball season." That day is April 8th.

How exactly are you going to make this process shorter than say 2 weeks under the following facts: 1. The President is involved 2. We have a 3rd party search company involved 3. We have an internal Search Committee 4. As stated, some candidates are still coaching.
Earliest possible would be end of next week. I am also holding them to their word - by the Final Four.

I heard former MBB Titan Dan Kennedy is one of the search committee members. No bigger supporter of Titan Athletics among the basketball alumni IMO.

7 days has passed. It took IUPUI 19 days to hire a head coach.
Everyone is still in at this point. No losers yet.

The funning thing is we agreed on "parting ways" with MD on March 7th reported. So it really has been 22 days since we announced publicly about moving on. IUPUI took 19 days from the time of the announcement to the public hiring of there new coach. They manage in that time to get a very good and young D2 coach.
We were told that it was going to be three weeks around March 18th because the candidate was still "coaching" or lead to believe that. At this point that would mean it is either going to be Blount or Haynes by the little information we have received. But if it turns out not to be either or any coach that is coaching today than we know the state of the program.
I hope for the best but ....

It could have really helped us if we hired a coach by now. We had a god awful season and you have to believe the university knew it was going to part ways with Davis by late January. That was the time to act and for Vowels to call some prospects and their agents.
It’s especially unfortunate this year because it’s the last year where the sport has an inventory of players in the portal who have that extra Covid year of eligibility. The other team I follow is an ACC school, so I follow that league very closely. There are at least a few grad transfers from the ACC alone in the portal right now who would be good gets for a school like UDM. Guys who played for very good teams but never truly panned out and became starters. Some of them had limited minutes but they’re serious athletes. And they’re 22/23 so they’re mature and responsible young men. A year on a HL team provides a new environment, chance to get major minutes, and earn a graduate degree (and UDM has some great grad programs). Add to the fact that we have an awful record of getting undergrad transfers admitted or confirm their their eligibility to play. Getting grad transfers makes the process 1000% times easier, so it’s really a huge lost opportunity.
Of course, we can’t engage these transfers because we don’t have a coach. And now we are into the holiday weekend and while other schools are having conversations with the best players in the portal, and these young men and their families are talking about their options and probably itching to make decisions. We are radio silent and don’t even have offers out.
At this point, it’s going to be another “coach ______ got a late start because he didn’t get the job until April __ and he couldn’t recruit.” Same story we had with Davis (who I still like and feel truly did have that obstacle). It seems like we are likely to hire a dude in his mid 50s who will get a “rebuilding pass” for the first few years, likely fail to transform the program, and then be dismissed in 5/6 years just in time to withdraw tax free withdrawals from his 403(b) plan at 59.5. We’re not running a dynamic D1 basketball program, we are making mediocre decisions time after time, putting no energy into doing bold things, and then wondering why it’s never our turn.
At the end of the day, Vowels +#@&*+ us again with his incompetence and lack of sense of urgency. And it seems Taylor and the board are just fine with it.

I believe that the Easter Bunny may be bringin' us a new coach. Who Mike Davis jr? LOL. His first hire will be Eric Devendorf. Davis Jr. will run the Xs and Os. Devendorf will throw shoes around.

It's not MD Jr. It's Bronkema. Everything else is intentional misdisinformation. And Monday is April Fool's Day - the perfect day to announce our new coach.

Mole, we don't need to start a rebuild with a bunch of one-and-done players. That was Davis' downfall.

Whomever our new coach is, I hope he doesnt have a college basketball playing son. It would be a real shame to have another Ray McCallum II or Antoine Davis in the lineup, for sure.
