We think Lamonta Stone based upon the tweet from the kid just offered. Now, Hoop Dirt has this rumor out there for another assistant - Lamar Chapman. Chapman is from Muskegon and he became NIU's interim head coach in January 2021 when Monty was fired there. He was at Central Connecticut in 2021-22.

Seems like there is some real energy, with Coach Monty moving quickly on both staff and recruits.

I believe Monty's interview with Detroit Mercy included his plans on both assistants and recruits. It never hurts to have a 30-60-90 day plan when pitching for a job.

I think that is where a majority of the best HS basketball in Michigan is being played. I would like to see us get some players out of Muskegon and Benton Harbor. I hope we are in on the guy out of Benton Harbor Scooby Johnson!

One thing I heard that impressed the hiring committee about Montgomery is that he had a very clear vision and detailed plan concerning how he would proceed as Titan coach. All the candidates had "a plan," but Montgomery came with specifics, including an outline of who he would bring on as assistants. Sounds like he understands the urgency of hitting the ground running given the circumstances at UDM and the current recruiting environment of college basketball.

This sounds all good and very positive out look. I hope with working with MD he learned with first hand experience what the hurtles/environment is at UDM along with MD short comings. My only concern can only be mitigated by time at this point. His past work experience as HC looks average at best. I hope all that is posted above is accurate and he learn the method Izzo used to create such a dynasty at MSU to mirror the success here. I need a HC not a used car salesman like the one we got from UM.

That brief stint with UD in 2021 has been mentioned several times, including by me, for the notion that Monty knows some of the difficulties of the job. What hasn't really been mentioned is that he also saw you can win. With a break, that team might very well have made the NCAA tournament, going 8-2 after Monty joined the staff, including the 1 point loss to NKU in the HL tournament.

I'm not sure about Scooby as our big splash recruit though. I get that he was found not guilty and all but that would be a strange-feeling first pickup to me. Has anyone else announced that they are recruiting him?

Looks like it's nearly official that Chapman will be an assistant here and work with Monty again.

DeShawn Sims Just took over Pershing. Hopefully he has a great relationship with Coach Monty. Pershing is not the powerhouse it was 10 years ago.. It's going to take years for them to produce high-quality players again. A lot of the guys who would have went there are at waren lincoln. That EAA destroyed almost of of the neighborhood schools in Detroit.

Looks like Lamonta Stone is also part of Montes staff or else he is a great friend and out recruiting on his own dime and making offers for us!😉
