Just because he didn’t say it in a stern or harsh manner doesn’t matter to me. Had he said it in a stern or serious tone, it would have just been truly inappropriate and awkward. I also disagree that the comment was “timely.” He went out of his way and said “I had to get that dig in.” That’s not timely, it’s the opposite.
And regardless of how one interprets his words, the fact is he’s a leader and a highly compensated one. So he owns those words regardless of how lighthearted they might have been.

8=10 recruits coming in this weekend as the dead period ends today. I'm glad that coach Monty is actually recruiting on campus and in person, rather than sitting in a luxurious downtown Detroit penthouse recruiting via youtube.

So far I've been pleased with Coach's launch. They seem to be active in getting offers out, and he's got two (at least verbal, not clear if signed) commits in 6-10 Miles Mitchell and 6-6 Nathan Johnson, both apparently choosing the Titans over other offers. Both look like decent commits to me.
So far, none of the guys in the portal has committed elsewhere--if he can save one of Hurst, Tank, Stone I'd be delighted, and happy to have Oaks back, too. Although it doesn't preclude a transfer, not entering the portal by April 30 makes it tougher for everyone. So just 1 more week to go, and I'm not sure I see anyone else bailing. (By the way, while Hurst is listed in the portal by Verbal Commits, he is not listed in the portal by 247Sports or Rivals--I assume he's in but... maybe...?).
So much ultimately depends on the commitment of the President and Board. Do they want to be D-1 or not, at least in more than name?
Anybody know anything about scheduling for next year? I think the CMU, Ohio, SIU-Edwardsville, and EMU games last year were all the last part of multi-year contracts. Toledo and Ball State were, I think, the first year, meaning Toledo will be at Calihan next year and we'll go to Muncie. Our other non-con games were all bought games. I assume we'll play an MTE, probably meaning 2-3 road games at higher majors, and 1-2, even 3 actual "buy" games, which would leave us still several openings. As I've said many times, while I appreciate Coach Davis's "play tough road games" philosophy, I think we BADLY need to schedule some win, even if that means scheduling badly. Give me an NAIA school with a state in its name--UM-Dearborn, Indiana Tech, etc. Maybe two. Pay a bit to buy a low-major D-1 program--Florida A&M or Delaware State sound pretty good.

I think it's imperative that the team schedule a game in North Carolina.

If Coach Monty is able to get two key players through the transfer portal, a quality proven point guard and a big with inside presence, he will have a chance to be competitive in the HL this upcoming season.

I think we might have more of an inside presence than any thing else on the team. We now need a leader, someone who can bring the ball up under pressure, and a couple of 40% 3 shooters. We might have more of an inside presence now than we have had in the last 8 years.

Or upstate New York…….Canisius, Niagara, St Bona or Siena. The Catholic schools in NYS/the Midwest, who have so much in common, could make scheduling pretty easy by playing each other on a regular basis. I'm biased as a life-long Canisius fan, but playing a "Great Lakes Cup" series in sports both schools sponsor could be a fun thing.
