Stone is probably the only one worth keeping out of this group that has hit the portal.
I am glade Alex, Tyree and Kyle have not hit the eject button. It would be nice to hold on to those guys

Kuac would be also a good player to retain.

Kuac would be also a good player to retain. I thought he was already a 5 th year grad. student?

Kuac would be also a good player to retain. I thought he was already a 5 th year grad. student? Kuac had four seasons at New Mexico and one with Detroit. However, he only played in one game in 2021-22 and 6 games in 2022-23. Per PTCTitan, one of the Titan recruits from last year was denied eligibility and his Covid year by the NCAA because he had a red shirt year previously. I'm not sure how that applies to Kuac, or if the NCAA will be consistent with that ruling. I imagine if he is able to come back and does, he will be better than last year, assuming that he is fully healed from those injuries. If he wants to return and the staff wants him on the roster, I'll welcome him back.

Personally, I'd prefer if all four of the guys in the portal decided to come back. When it comes to whether or not I want a player to leave, my consideration is, "Can we get someone who will contribute more in their place?" I don't think Tank or Stone will be back, and I am certainly not sure we'll find guys who are capable of scoring 21 and 17 points per game. Hurst and Oaks both showed flashes of potential, and if they are willing to work hard and are able to stay healthy, they should be better next year.
Coach Monty and staff are recruiting players to a program that went 1-31 last season, with all the other warts the program has. That's a tall task. I'd like to retain experienced players who have been productive or have potential.

The difference between Kuac and Luther Muhammed is that Luther played 4 full seasons and had a full medical redshirt year in 2020-21. Kuac did not play in more than 30% of NM's scheduled games in 2021-22 and 2022-23 for injury reasons. So, he has played 2 years in five seasons. His play in 2020-21 does not count as using a year of eligibility. He gets 6 years to play up to 5 seasons due to 2020-21 not counting against a year of eligibility. 2024-25 would be his 6th year. Therefore, since he is a grad student, he has one year of eligibility remaining. After that, he would need a waiver like Seth Towns.

Kuac has looked impressive shooting it in the off season from what I’ve seen. Really excited for him if they can find a way to put him in the right spots, especially healthy.

He's strong, athletic, a leaper, a shot blocker. Why does he insist on playing so far away from the basket? With his build he should be banging the boards.

What is needed is a coach who demands that Kuac play in the paint!

I don't think he was nessecarily bad on the boards but I'm with you there's no reason he shouldn't be able to get 5 a game rather than 3. If he gets more pick and roll action he'll be better in the paint if he can get switched on to a smaller player, he seemed to have trouble finishing over bigger guys. That would also open him up more for pick and pop looks rather than late or early 3's in the shot clock on an island which is your worst percentage look at this level. He's the definiton of a stretch 4 which is only useful to your team if they don't have to step into one role definitively, something him and Del Cadia had to do which made them rather inefficient sometimes (Del Cadia turnovers, Kuac getting lost in the offense and starting cold). With a legitamate big or two he becomes a defensive luxury who can guard 2-5 and if the shooting is there he's very valuable. Going to be interesting to see how he fits with Monty and his fast tempo too.

I believe we'll see Tchikou, Kuac, Manciel, Davis, Johnson (walk on) and Olajuwon (walk on) on the 2024-25 roster.
It's wishful thinking however, I'm going to add Ryan Hurst to list of returning players. 😊
