Hate to see these players moving on while DePaul is still looking for a coach, but I understand why they are hitting the portal. Heck, the rest of the college basketball world is doing it. :-)
Hopefully the Demons get a new guy on board who can make a push to convince the guys he wants to stay.

Was the top JUCO player in the country in the class of 2020, but never should have gone to Kansas. Never got traction there. Good pick up for DePaul, because they desperately need players.

Nick announced on Twitter that he is withdrawing from the Portal and returning to DePaul. Good news for the Blue Demons, who are trying to rebuild the roster.

DePaul lands a JUCO forward as Philmon Gebrewhit committed to the Demons. Gebrewhit played the past two seasons at South Plains Junior College, which is a top JUCO program regularly sending players to the high major ranks. In his freshman year, he averaged 8ppg, shooting 35/31/72%. He made a nice jump in year two, going for 12 per game on 46/41/75. Gebrewhit originally committed to Robert Morris, but sat out year one for academic reasons. As we know too well, it's hard to get those former commits back once they go the JUCO route. www.spctexans.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/bios/gebrewhit_philmoon_7qno

Brandon Johnson, a Chicago native who spent last season at Minnesota after spending two years at Western Michigan, verbally committed to DePaul. Johnson, 6-8 220, averaged 9 points and 6 boards per game for the Gophers. Put up 26 and 9 in a win over Iowa. Blue Demon fans are still anxiously waiting to see if Ahamad Bynum, a top 100 recruit in the class of 2021, is going to stick with his commitment to the DePaul. He committed to the former coach. It would be big for the new coach to retain that commitment, perhaps signaling the beginning of a good relationship with the public school league in Chicago. Bad new is that the Demons lost a bunch of players from last year's team due to transfer. The good news is that team has finished dead last in the Big East, so some new blood might not be the worst thing. :-) I remain optimistic about the new regime. Sam, it looks like your dream game is coming true--Eastern Michigan is scheduled to play at DePaul this year as part of the latter's MTE. (OK, I suppose DePaul at Detroit is your true dream game).

Yeah, definitely Detroit vs DePaul is the dream, but I will definitely check out the EMU v DePaul game. I think I read that UIC has a home game with DePaul. That makes me jealous.

Been awhile since we had some DePaul news, but the Blue Demons showed up in the news with the commitment of JUCO guard KT Raimey. The 6-4 shooting guard from the College of Southern Idaho chose DePaul over West Virginia and also had offers from Texas Tech, Texas A&M, and Tulsa. Nice pick up for DePaul. Raimey's quote: "JUCO makes you hungry", which is why I like getting good JUCO players. 247sports.com/Article/Basketball-recruiting-KT-Raimey-College-of-Southern-Idaho-commit-174523991/

I believe that every preseason prediction I've seen has had DePaul in last place for the season, and rightfully so. The past several years have been brutal, and the Demons field of team that hasn't played much together. The new coach is a respected assistant, but not the attention grabber that some teams landed this off season. DePaul started slow last night but ended up blowing out Coppin State, but the early struggles are worrisome. I think it is going to be another long season.
I think what it is going to take to turn DePaul around is a coach who is able to overachieve with the talent he gets, being able to put together a winning season or two that makes the program more attractive to better talent. The previous coach, Leiato, was able to bring in some talent, but not true Big East contender talent, and couldn't turn that into a winning record.
Note: The Demons played last night without Flint native Jalen Terry, a point guard transfer from Oregon, and Ahmad Bynum, their top recruit in the class of 2021. Both of them are being held up by NCAA eligibility issues.
Next up for DePaul, Central Michigan on Saturday.
