Miami Ohio transfer James Beck had his waiver denied. Transferred from Oakland.

Since the NCAA has authorized the regular season to start in early November, it owes its member schools and their players a duty to determine each player's eligibility before the first day of the season. If the NCAA lacks the resources to review and decide these cases, then it should add them. The NCAA has created the transfer mess. It created the portal. It found a way to rule rapidly on permitting players to profit from a member school's use of their own images and likenesses.
As much as I dislike Oakland when we are in competition with them, why did it take 4 months to decide Rashad Williams' case? Why did it take longer to decide James Beck's case? And why did it take the NCAA until last week to decide James Wiseman's case at Memphis?
We have a player, who has not yet played, who submitted his paperwork over 6 months ago and the NCAA is just getting back to us and asking for more documentation. Yet, they were very prompt in applying the APR rules against us last May without even taking it upon themselves to reconsider the application of the postseason eligibility penalty in light of the data staring at them from their own forms.
The system apears broken because the NCAA continually acts in an ad hoc and ultra-bureaucratic manner - except when their own rear ends are on the line.

I guess the NCAA doesn’t grant waivers when a player’s best reason is “I don’t want to play in a high school gym anymore.”

With about 2:40 left in the first half, Oakland was in a battle with #7 Maryland, down 26-22. They had been leading 16-12 with about 10:20 left in first half.
With about the same time left in the 2nd half, it was Maryland 75 Oakland 44. Final score was Terps 80, Grizzlies 50. Maryland played their walk-ons for the last 4-5 minutes of the game.
The Grizzlies got exposed at PG by Maryland's Cowan, who is an elite PG this year. Also, Brechting and Oladapo were no match inside for Maryland's power. Whatever chance Oakland had to carry on was broken by their awful free throw shooting. The Grizzlies looked slow and beaten down. For the sake of the HL, I was hoping that they would fare better. They gave a great effort for the first 17 minutes; but had nothing left to continue to fight the Terps' superior athleticism.
Of course, we've been in similar games; so, I'm not going to throw stones their way. I'm not sure that either Braden Norris or Rashad Williams would have made a difference today.
BTW, whichever pundit said to watch Sowunmi, he's definitely a first team all-airport guy. On the court, he's slow and out of position 90% of the time. He played the final 8 minutes of the game against Maryland's 2nd team and their walk-ons. He was never a factor. A long way for him to progress before he will ever be in position to replace Brechting.
