I think the air and fun is being let out of college basketball, for all concerned. It will certainly change the way I think about certain players. I'm still hopeful that in 2025-26, the elimination of most Covid year players from the player pool will reduce the chaos. This year, a lot of 5th year players like Townsend can earn as much in NIL as they would earn in the sub-NBA pro's. So, why not start grad school and get about the same money as in the pro's?! College is more fun anyway. Conway and Townsend were 4-year players at OU. If 2020-21 had counted as a year, they'd be gone from OU anyway. Stone would have been done for us. But they are the last year of the Covid guys. A lot of the chaos results from 5th and 6th year players 23-25 years of age being able to play as grad students only because of Covid.

I hope you're right, suspect you're wrong. I agree with Rogo--I stay involved from habit, and maybe hope, but that's a great way to put it Rogo--"the air and fun is being let out." In the "Idle speculation on transfers" thread there was mention of Legend Geeter, and I noted he had two years of eligibility left. Remember when that mattered? Does it matter anymore? I sort of presume that any Titan we recruit with more than one year of eligibility remaining has well under a 50% chance--maybe about 33%--of finishing his career at UD--considerably less if he is an all-conference level player or anything approaching that (e.g. Stone/Tank) before his final season. Similarly, I was looking up in old recruiting threads a moment ago to verify that we had offered EMU Portalists Legend Geeter and Orlando Lovejoy out of HS. I used to enjoy keeping track of HS offers, but not so much now, as the rosters are so heavily dependent on transfers.

As I said, I will view some players differently. With so many things now being a business transaction than a college choice, I won't be emotionally invested with individual players to the extent that I may have been in the past. My emotional investment will be even greater with the school.
All I was trying to convey is that this year's craziness reflects the presence of 500-600 extra players in the transfer portal who otherwise would not be there. Townsend and Conway would not be eligible to transfer but for the Covid year. I think the absence of so many older players next year will calm down the transfer market. In effect, we'll be back to 2 or 3 years at the same school like it was before freshmen became eligible.
