Here is an article that offers an interesting bit of insight into the transfer of Boston University's Maurice Watson. He averaged 13 points, seven assists, and 2 steals per game this year for BU, but according to his Dad, it's time for him to take his talents to a "bigger stage". Watson's a 5-10 guard; the Patriot League is a good fit for him, and I'm not sure how he'll do on a bigger stage. Sounds like they are thinking high major level. BU was 22-9, 15-3 this past season. They lost in the first round of the NIT to Illinois 66-62. Watson was 3-12 from the floor in that game. cityofbasketballlove.com/2014/04/maurice-watson-transferring-from-boston-u/To Creighton.

Looks like the NCAA is making an adjustment to the transfer rule. I think it's a good idea. If a player is transferring to be close to home due to something like a family illness, it makes sense for them to NOT play that season, and deal with their family matters and academics. I think too many players are using the "family hardship" excuse to transfer to another school and get immediate eligibility. We'll see if this gets passed.
Brett McMurphy @mcmurphyespn 15m NCAA recommends transfers for difficult life situations won't be eligible immediately at new school but get extra year of eligibility

This is obviously going to be a growing problem for mid-majors. No longer can they take a flyer on the 6-11 project and redshirt him for a year, because if he gets any good they'll lose him as soon as he graduates. And players who excel early, as frosh or sophs, are looking then to move up. For individuals I suppose that this sorting process makes sense, but the gap between haves and have nots will grow. Here's another example, with Jacksonville transfer sophomre Jarvis Haywood looking to move up. Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 10m Cincinnati will host JU transfer Jarvis Haywood (@thatboysmoove4) on May 2, he told ESPN. Soph. G also considering NC St, Temple, Richmond.

Here's a possible transfer of note, James Kelly of Miami, FLA. Kelly is a 6-8, 246 junior forward. Notable because he is from Ann Arbor and played at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. Worth a call to see if he wants to come home. Good production in his one year at Miami after coming from JUCO. Averaged 6 points and four rebounds in 18 minutes per game. Given the fact that he is going to have only one year of eligibility left, he might be looking for a spot on a mid major to avoid being stuck behind BCS talent in his last shot. We'll see. espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/66132/james-kellyVerbal Commits @verbalcommits 16m Miami F James Kelly is leaving the program. The Titans recruited Kelly a bit when he was at Owens CC, along with his front court runningmate Dustin Hogue. The Titans put more effort into Hogue, who eventually went to Iowa State and was a key player on their team this year, averaging 11.6 points and 8.4 rebounds. Anyway, we shouldn't be total strangers.

Even elite programs like Duke are raiding the lesser programs for their best talent. Seriously, with the players they get, why does Duke need this kid?
Terrence Payne @terrence_payne 6m Duke adds a 6-foot-9 sophomore forward (eligible 2015-2016) who averaged 11 and 9 at Rice last year.

This isn't a 2014 transfer, but it's transfer related. Darius Paul was a Titan target in high school before going to WMU, where he decided his game was too big for the MAC. Looks like he picked up some weight during his red shirt year.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 24m Illinois forward Darius Paul has gained 30 pounds since transferring from Western Michigan, per @johngroce. Will play both PF and C.

Another example of the big boys raiding the smaller programs. Of course, this was to be expected once Stan Heath got fired at USF.
Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein 2m USF's John Egbunu will visit Georgetown this weekend, source told @cbssports. Currently visiting Michigan St. Florida + Arizona also in mix.

Here's a big one - the word is that Bryn Forbes may be leaving Cleveland State and transferring to Michigan State. Forbes, a second team all-Horizon selection this season as a sophomore, is a Lansing native and apparently has an out-of-wedlock child living with the mother in Lansing. This was originally tweeted by Steve Schwanda of AlleyesonUhoops, who later tweeted it was not a done deal. At least one poster on the CSU board, however, says it is a done deal.

I hate to see mid majors lose top players to the high majors like that. What that is going to mean is that every time we get a player who really tears it up as a freshman or sophomore, we are going to be worried about them being recruited by a high major. Cleveland State fans must be sick.
