www.tampabay.com/blogs/bulls/heath-gets-homecoming-in-2014-game-at-detroit/2112497Not sure if this has been discussed yet. Sorry if old news! USF men's basketball coach Stan Heath will return to his hometown of Detroit in 2014, as the Bulls have signed a two-game series with the University of Detroit, bringing the Titans to Tampa this upcoming season and letting Heath come home in 2014-15. Heath, a Detroit native who went to high school there and played collegiately at Eastern Michigan, will have a personal homecoming, as will incoming Bulls freshman guard Byron "Bo" Zeigler (of Detroit Community School) and rising USF sophomore guard JaVontae Hawkins, who is from an hour away in Flint. The Titans are a solid addition to USF's 2013-14 nonconference schedule, having gone 20-13 this season and 12-4 in the Horizon, losing in the opening round of the NIT. Rising senior Ray McCallum Jr., son of Detroit's head coach, is a strong player, having averaged 18.7 points per game this past season. The Titans nearly upset Syracuse, losing 72-68 in the Carrier Dome, and lost by only three points at St. John's.

I love this game. I love that we're playing a Big East team (or whatever the conference will be called next year) and I love it's a two game home/home series.
TR is right, unfortunately we'll be hearing the usual discounting of this opponent by many of our "fans". (I'm not speaking of anyone on this board.) We did hear that same kind of talk before the Miss State game.
Interesting note: USF has their own freshman swingman from Flint, Javontae Hawkins. I wonder if he ever went up against our freshman swingman from Flint, Anthony Wilson. Hawkins averaged 4.5 ppg for the Bulls this season.
Now, if we can only get that home and home with DePaul on the schedule...

Stan Heath is a good man who has had his coaching ups and downs, and if this home and home helps him I'm for it.

A BigEast whatever the hell the conference is called opponent on a home and home; a team with a couple of Detroit kids on the roster - I think it's a great addition to the schedule.
That would give us Wichita State at home next year, James Madison (which went to the NCAA this year) and South Florida on the road; South Florida at home the next year. Doesn't CMU still owe us a home game?

If I remember correctly, Commish, Eastern Michigan owes us a game.
Although, now that I think about it, I might be wrong. Someone help me out...

We played them well and almost won.

I'm new on this post, but I've been reading this past season, its very informative. I just want to let you know the freshman name is Anton Wilson not Anthony Wilson. I'm glad you fans are talking about positive stuff and not negative stuff, leave that to other fan sites. Thanks

We played them well and almost won. Moose, I loved that Miss State game. I had it circled on the calendar and was looking forward to it. Made sure I had no conflicts that day so I could attend. I was disappointed with the turnout among our fans. I was expecting more. The Bulldogs are in a high profile conference, they were ranked in the top twenty, and they had been to the NCAA tournament multiple times since 2002. We were also in the midst of an impressive stretch of the schedule with recent games against St. John and Alabama. It seemed as if the local basketball fans who might not be U of D fans would have turned out to see it. I thought the sports media would pick up on the game, but we got a big ho hum from them and our fans. That was a bitter disappointment to me, particularly after seeing what an exciting game it turned out to be. Hopefully, we'll be off to a fast start next year and get some buzz going for a nice turnout for the USF game. At least we know we'll get a bump from the families of Hawkins and Bo Zeigler. :-)
